i found ours at Anthropologie.  loved them!!  i wasnt a big fan of the strapless, a-line shiny stuff either.  we checked modcloth, macys, saks, anthro, and bcbg.  anthro and bcbg had the best selection (the bcbg outlet had a TON)

when i saw your title, i was going to suggest modcloth! the limited has a newish line of bridesmaid dresses and has cute “normal” dresses.

anthropologie is my favorite, but they are very rarely under $75.

Anthro!! I would also suggest modcloth and forever 21, but I think their sizing is really limited-not everyone can fit into a S, M, or L. We bought our dresses on sale at anthro for $50! Well it wasn’t on sale at first, but I knew that it would go one sale eventually and had the girls keep the tags and receipt to return and rebuy when it did. 😀

Alfred angelo and Bari jay have many chiffon gowns that look contemporary. do you have a specific look, length or style in mind?

We bought all of ours on eBay – worked great! We got Calvin Klein, Ann Taylor, BCBG and other really nice dresses for $30 to $40 new.
