Sunday morning we woke up and got everything together for a day at one of our favorite parks & let me tell you I had NO idea what this day was about to bring me. This would be the first time we canoed here (or so I thought) While I’m rushing around trying to get ready he tells me he’s not feeling the best so of course I try and tell him we don’t have to go today but he insisted and said once he is out there he will feel better.
On the way there he was talking to me and kept getting text from his best friend Johnny and said how he is stuck at work (well there is more to it later). We got to the park, got our canoe and rental items and set sail. I was in front. Jesse was in the back. We started to go through some thick reeds and being in a canoe I was weary we were going to flip. Jesse says nah don’t worry about it we will be fine… So he went through it with confidence as if he has been out there before..(hmmm) Well we got out into the center of the lake and Jess says to hurry up and get to the other side he wants to find out what’s over there and the faster we get there the easier it will be on us to float back since we won’t have to paddle so hard against the wind.
So I’m paddling my little arms off and I start to see red petals floating in the lake scattered around and say oh this is beautiful, wonder where those came from (oblivious to it all lol) Jesse says I don’t know that’s cool though, keep paddling babe. In the distance I seen someone else is out canoeing too. We were close to the other side and I’m so tired from paddling quickly and just focusing on the scenery and how peaceful it was. Suddenly Jesse says WAIT STOP… Stop right here Ashley look down! Look down to your right.. I was like what, what is it? An alligator? I looked down to my right and I was blown away and started crying I just couldn’t believe it and was so overwhelmed!
The canoe we were in was just surrounded by tons of deep red and white rose petals and Lilly pads and white water lilies. Resting on one of the Lilly pads were a dozen roses. He had also written on lilly pads in white paint… messages on different ones, Will you marry me? Be my wife. I love you Ashley. Forever and even one with our cats face! I turned around to look back at Jesse and there he was in the back of the canoe.. Down on one knee holding out the open black ring box with a beautiful diamond heart cut solitaire, white gold ring shining so pretty in the sun. He was grinning from ear to ear and shaking so nervously and said Ashley will you marry me? All I wanted to do was get up and give him a hug and kiss but if I moved I would have for sure tipped us over. All I could say was oh my god, oh my god I can’t believe this.. This is beautiful I love you I love you and then he had to ask well is that a yes? And I said YES of course! How did you do this? When did you do this .He put the ring on my finger and stood up in the canoe to come up front with me so we could be closer and I was still in tears and just shaking we kissed and just couldn’t stop smiling.
The other person that was out canoeing started getting a little closer to us and Jesse says.. Can you tell who that is? I said no. he said its Johnny. I said what? I thought he was stuck at work! Then the story all came together. Jesse and Johnny went out the day before collected the Lilly pads took them back to Johnny’s house, wrote the messages and kept them in water over night. Johnny went out 10 minutes before we got there and placed everything for Jesse. It was AMAZING
Jesse had planned this proposal for several months and did lots of research on wedding rings. It was so well done and better than I could have every imagined
