You can eat deli meat. My doctor said it was fine. Just microwave it.

Mrs. Meowerson:  My OBGYN also told me to microwave deli meat too but that sounds pretty gross.

Limit on eating fish? I’ve never heard that one before. Why can’t you eat fish?

I havent eaten a full lunch since being pregnant, but snack throughout the day. Lots of peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, yogurt with berries and granola, cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, oatmeal, etc.

I didn’t eat deli meat when I was pregnant either. I ate a lot of leftover roasted chicken, tuna salad once a week or so, and salads with cheese and chickpeas.

Mrs. Meowerson:  I just googled and that seemed very strange to me! In Japan, fish is an intergral part of everyone’s diet (pregnant women included).

How about lots of eggs, fruits/veggies or yogurt? A lot of mamas over here are crazy about ice cream so they usually substitute it with frozen yogurt. What about a a healthy homemade greek pita? Maybe stuff it with hummus?

Chicken, hardboiled eggs, homemade turkey burger patties, greek yogurt… Since I have GD I have to be pretty on top of the protein.

Not pregnant but I tend to eat fairly high-protein, low-carb lunches so I’ll just chuck a few of my usual lunches out there:

Ham, sliced hard-boiled egg and grated cheddar cheese on a lettuce, cucumber and tomato salad

Chicken tikka on a mixed leaf salad – baby spinach, watercress and rocket (think it’s called arugula in the US?). I’ll stick a dollop of tzatziki or sour cream and chive on the side too sometimes.

Pesto chicken, chorizo, red bell peppers, sundried tomatoes and mozzarella on a bed of spinach

Chicken, bacon and avocado with a few rocket/arugula leaves thrown in. Dressing varies.

Greek salad with some lemon/oregano marinated chicken.

Chicken caesar salad with hard boiled eggs.

Again, not pregnant, never been pregnant so apologies if some of these meals have items you can’t eat, but hopefully there’s a few idea in there?

Mrs. Meowerson:  Gestational Diabetes. They will test for it in the 2nd trimester, basically its the placenta interfering with your body’s processing carbs and sugar, which can end up dumping way too much sugar to baby. Nutrition is the first step in managing it, basically balancing carbs and protein and eating smaller meals and snacks instead of big meals.

The turkey burgers are great, especially because you can customize them so easily! My favorites are lemon zest, fresh basil, and feta or artichoke and garlic, but you can really put in anything 🙂

Peanut butter sandwhiches were my savior during my first pregnancy!

Yogurt with granola and fruit is a fav lunch for me this pregnancy.

Grilled cheese sandwhiches are also yummy
