Hi! So I’ve gone through some nasty business with trying to order a wedding dress on Etsy. Now there is under two months until my wedding and I don’t have a wedding dress! EEK! Not to mention, by trying to save money by ordering on etsy, I’ve actually cut my dress budget in half. So I have $600 for a wedding dress, and if possible I’d like to spend less than that.
My question, what is the best quality brand of wedding dress in that price range? I’m going to shop out in Rapid City, SD. The shops I’m going to are Audra’s Bridal and Davids Bridal. OR I could order a dress online (for obvious reasons this makes me nervous) what makes this different from before is that this dress is Vera Wang. It’s on sale right now from over $1,000 and has gone down to $300. It’s available in my exact size, and I think its gorgeous. But I don’t know… It is on sale on Davids Bridal website. I’ve looked at there return policy and it seems like if it doesn’t work out their return policy would work for me.
Here’s a link. The pink pattern is sold out, but they have it in ivory which will look nicer with my bridesmaids dresses anyway…
But I think, but I’ve never actually had the experience of going and trying on wedding dresses…. Hmm…
Oh, fellow Bees! What do I do!?

This is also a sale vera wang http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-Faced-Organza-Fit-and-Flare-Gown-VW351020_Bridal-Gowns-Shop-By-Designer-White-by-Vera-Wang
My Fiance was looking over my shoulder as I was dress obsessing and this is the one he loves… and yes, I love it too. But its at my max budget, and I don’t know if/how much I will have to pay for alterations.
How much do alterations usually cost? How affordable are Davids Bridals alterations? If I order on their website are they the same price as if I order in-store? Or is it a better deal if I wait, get fitted, and order through them?
Ugggg!! I’m so confused. I think it’s the time crunch. It’s makin’ me crazy lol 🙂

it’s better to go to the store. that way, you can try things on.
also, if you buy a dress from DB, DO NOT use their alterations department. find an independent seamstress/tailor/alterations person. 1) DB will overcharge you. 2) they can mess up your dress and refuse to fix it. it’s much safer to find someone outside of DB to do your alterations.

I would try some dresses on in store to get some ideas about what shapes fit best. Then order online to save some money!

@2dBride: Wow, that’s great! I’ve never thought about Target for dresses but they’ve got some cute stuff!

I think if you order the DB dress online you could exchange it for another dress at DB, but they will not give you your money back. I think the first vera, it’s beautiful! And because of the style, it only needs to fit well around your bust and waist, so that will only involve alterations of side seams. I was told side seams are the cheapest and easiest things to alter on a dress. The expense comes if you need it heamed up to shorten it. If you can buy heels of the right size, you might be able to avoid this. Hope that helps!

I think it would be best to go to a David’s Bridal and try on the dresses. I didn’t have to order mine, we bought it and were able to take it home. I also had them do my alterations. Which were I think around $130, I can’t remember. I had to have it hemmed and they had to add fabric because I gained weight and my dress didn’t fit.

@Stefbroome: the first dress I purchased was Davinci,…I had tried on davids bridal dresses and they are decent quality for the $, but I think davinci offered quite a few in that price range (under $700 was my budget) and the quality was very good imho, def check them out at a local salon.
Also I would look into buying local second hand, there are a lot of stores out there now that purchase samples and resell them for a fraction of the price.
I’m near Toledo and there is one there (not sure where u r located)

Where are you located at? I’ve never loved the dresses at DB. Maybe just every one that I looked at felt “cheap” to me despite being really beautiful in the ads and online.
If you are anywhere near Maryland, I recommend going to Vows http://www.bridepower.com to look at their instock sample gowns. You can go there, try on, and take home right there. And dresses are at 50% or more off the retail prices. Or you can order a dress online if you are not nearby.
In CA and IL, there’s a similar store called Glamour Closet, but I find that the experience wasn’t as personal. It felt more like DB with customer service and their selection isn’t huge. And you can’t order online.
