My SO got me a right hand ring just 6 months into our relationship (we’re 7 years in now, sadly it’s too small for my fingers now so I just admire it in my jewelry box). It’s a small oval pink tourmaline with tiny round diamonds on the sides. It got me thinking, what do you consider to be an ideal ratio for 3 stone rings?
And just out of my own curiosity, how do you feel about 1ct stones in general? Do you think they’re small? huge? just right? Does it depend on what shape they are?
Feel free to post some ring porn pics of 3 stones, as well as 1ct stone rings 🙂 I want to see some sparklies!

@glitter-girl: I love the ratio of my 3 stone, the center is .96 ct and each side is .55 the I have smaller diamonds on the sides of those but you maonly see the 3. Here’s a pic for reference

I happen to think they are juuuust right and yes, I am totally biased because that is what I have!
I have a 1ct centre stone, and the side stones are, (I think) 0.45ct and 0.45ct. Personally, I love the ratio of the stones. They were cut specifically by the jeweller so I guess he thought the same thing.

@glitter-girl: Okay so here is my beauty! It’s a Birks Blue Channel Set ring, 1.1 carats TW. The center is 0.56, the sides are 0.2’s and then there are small channel set diamonds on the sides. I feel this proportion works beautifully!

You all have beautiful rings! I don’t think I prefer one ratio, or even size stone over another, they all look amazing!

@glitter-girl: mine is just under 1.5ct, and the sides are around .25ct, I think? Not round stones, though. I could see it being large for a lot of women. However, I’m tall, with big hands and long, fingers… So, anything smaller for the center stone would have probably been dwarfed. I will also be getting the shank slimmed down to be a lot thinner, as that aspect is a little bulky for me.

I like when the center stone is significantly larger. So at least .75 with .25 on the side.

@smv22114: That’s really nice! I don’t like how square cuts look on me, so I looove looking at them on other people 🙂 I’m jealous you can pull it off! Is your setting a trellis setting? My monitor makes it look like it might be from the first picture

This is my 2-1-2 (with a band I was trying out) as you put it 🙂

@aliavenue: Wow that’s a stunning ring! Did you end up going with that band or one similar to it? I love how dainty it looks.

I restyled my engagement ring by using my original solitaire diamond, diamond studs, and an anniversary band. My center stone is 0.5, the sides are .15 each. Channel set rubies and diamonds on the shoulders. Smallish stones but I love my ring!

I went for a more dramatic ratio that gives me the profile of a solitaire (side stones are flush, semi-bezel set in the band) and the top view of a 3 stone. My center is .94 and each side is .15, for a 1.24 tcw. It’s really a matter of personal preference, and I spent a ridiculous amount of time narrowing down what I wanted in a ring.

I prefer the side stones to be just a little smaller than most. I like .15-.20 side stones and 1 carat is just right, definitely not small by any means. But not huge either. (well depending on where you live. a 1 carat diamond where I live is huge)

My ring is a three stone ring with the centre stone being .74 and the 2 side stones are .25 each. The smaller diamonds are all .10 i belive then the wedding band has even smaller ones

My 3 stone is 1.25 and .33 on the sides (7.5mm and 4.5mm, roughly) and I think that is perfect.
