@EastMeetsBarn: I know it is a cliche, but I just can’t believe people say that they are going to come and then don’t last minute. This is one of my biggest fears! It isn’t like people don’t know how much weddings cost, unless they live under a rock somewhere. Is it so hard to just decline if you don’t want to go? Way more respectful than ducking out.
Ha that’s hilarious. Not to actually send out but I think everyone on WB can appreciate that!
@Firinne: I was just fine with those particular people not coming. Darling Husband and I had all sorts of pre-wedding stress because we didn’t want them there, but he felt he HAD to invite them (his niece and her husband). What REALLY pissed me off is a friend of mine who sent me an EMAIL followed by a TEXT telling me to check my email (no phone call!) the Monday before the wedding (I read said email on my phone, as we were driving to Maine for the wedding), telling me she wouldn’t be there. She said the travel time would just be too much with her child. She, like a large number of our guests, would have been traveling from NYC to Maine. Why she couldn’t look at the travel time when she RSVPed yes is beyond me (we had directions and travel info on our website!). We would have understood if she declined in a timely manner due to travel. We also didn’t invite her daughter, and had followed the rules in addressing the invite only to her and her husband, and she added her daughter. I talked to her and was willing to accomodate her daughter if that meant she could come (we wanted kid free, but since our wedding required travel for most people, we knew it was a different situation than finding a sitter for just one night, and that people might make mini-vacations out of their trips). I really wish she’d made up a better excuse. Lie to me. Anything is better than what she said. I’ve heard nothing from her since (and I haven’t reached out to her, I feel like her email/text was wholly inappropriate so it’s not up to me to make ammends). We paid for them, of course, and they didn’t even send us a card. I went to her wedding a few years ago, so I know she knows that weddings aren’t cheap. DH’s step mom also didn’t come, but she had fallen down the stairs a couple days before and was badly bruised on half her body and wasn’t comfortable sitting, so we couldn’t fault her for not coming.
LOL Im laughing so hard right now. Obviously not something that anyone would ever send, but so funny and so applicable to so many RSVP situations (including mine)!
That’s awesome. And pretty much encompasses everything I’ve ever read on this site!
That’s awesome!! I may actually use something like that for some of the invites! Much better than the formal stuff my Future In-Laws want to use….
Jeez not a lot of love for this. I think its hilarious 😀
Omg i wish I would have seen this earlier. This is right up my family’s alley. They would have LOVED it. So freaking funny.
@doorstopper: LOL i was thinking the same thing. The British tend to sense sarcasm as soon as the first word is said!
I laughed when I first read it, then saw the comments and thought “whaaaat?? people think the OP is actually considering sending it?!”
It’s really funny. I particularly liked “I have so many allergies you’ll wonder how I’m still alive”. That was me at a friend’s wedding… All I could eat was the salmon and the salad garnish from her buffet! Everything else I was allergic to!
@lookingglass: Maybe it is my British heritage and/or my love of Monty Python, Doctor Who and the IT crowd, but I right away knew this was sarcastic and never thought anyone would have taken it seriously.
I think I would enjoy living in Britain; you guys have such an awesome sense of humor!
