rmnyc123 :  I believe my makeup artist used mineral veil as a setting powder (foundation was MAC SFF) and it didn’t cause any problems for my photography, although we didn’t use much flash. I thought it was just mineral foundation that could look bad in photos.

I’m a makeup artist and I use Airspun powder in “translucent extra coverage” on clients as well as on myself. You should try it out! I’m not sure what your local drug stores carry but where I’m from you can find it at Walmart or Walgreens. I’ve used a lot of higher end powders but this one is by far my favorite.

Right now I’m using Wowder from Glossier. I’m not a powder type of gal because they always emphasize my skin texture and dryness. I’m not sure if you want to be  super matte that it will work for you. To me it has a skin like finish.

I’ve heard good things about RCMA no color powder. It’s super cheap and supposedly has no flash back. I havent tried it but for 12 dollars and a huge container it might be worth a try.

Mac studio fix is what I used for film/tv clients. Mac also makes a loose setting powder. They do the best job at mattifying for photos.

I have super oily skin – meaning my foundation begins to break down within a few hours of application, requiring frequent blotting and reapplying makeup. I have used Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder with some success, but I really love Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder! It has extended the wear of my makeup by hours and is translucent, so it should not cause any issues with photography. I plan to use it on my wedding day.

My only suggestion would be to make sure you are using a good primer – that seems to be one of the key components in helping keep my skin more matte and making my foundation last.

Good luck!

Hands down, Ben Nye! Order off amazon and that will keep your face slick-free. The reason Mineral veil doesn’t work with flash is due to the SPF in it. SPF causes “flash back” as we call it. Reflects the flash and results in ghost face. So never, never use any makeup with SPF for your wedding day. Also, Model in a Bottle or Ben Nye Final Seal are both the best setting sprays out there to keep your makeup from moving 🙂
