I saw that one other person posted this already and I thought I had a good answer until I realized the Ion Portable PA system only worked with regular iPods and nanos! I have an iPod touch that I want to use for my reception of about 80 guests and were wondering what other people have used. The Brookstone outdoor speakers were interesting but I heard they distort badly at mid to high levels of bass (I love my hiphop x.x) Anyone have any sort of feedback about speakers for me? We ARE working on a budget and can’t afford to shell out 300 + for Bose (unfortunatly!)

We did not want to rely on an iPod for fear of malfunction, so we actually used our PC to play the music (and were assured a back up plan if something failed)… I don’t know if that would change your speaker plan?
Ultimately, we used a professional PA system that we borrowed from my SIL’s work 🙂

🙁 Phooey. I was going to recommend the Brookstone ones — Sister and BIL Bruschetta have them and love them for when they have pool parties!

If you have a speaker system at home, like a surround sound or other stereo with powerful speakers, try hooking up your iPod with a cord that has one end rca (red and white) and the other end a headphone jack. You may already have one or else could get one for under $20.
I like the Brookstone speakers but I guess it depends on how loud you turn them up. I find that when you turn up the volume on MP3s you lose a lot of quality just based on the file compression, so there’s no speaker that’s going to remedy that.

Thanks so much for all the input. FH and I went to Brookstone to try out the outdoor speakers and decided that they would be perfect considering our guest list is only about 80 people and we don’t want the music BLARING.

For anyone else considering this, you can hook up your laptop to the Ion PA system. You just need a cable that connects to the headphone/line out on your laptop and and has an RCA plug on the other end to go into the RCA outlet on the PA system.
I just looked at the video on the Ion website and it shows an iPhone being connected. Isn’t this the same connection as an iTouch?

JBL makes very good speakers for the iPod.
