Hey there!  My hubby and I registered for Lowe’s gift cards for home improvement projects, and we couldn’t be happier with that decision.  Even if you are not a home owner now, you probably will be soon, and the money you put into your home is staggering.  Maybe this is somewhat of an obvious choice for a homeowner, but for a non-homeowner, not so much.  Think about major expenses that you will have in the future, and register toward those things.  I know it’s not all about “investment worthiness,” but it is something to think about.

A couple other things that we registered for that have been invaluable:  a good step ladder that is portable, clothes drying racks, blankets (you don’t realize how many you actually need, especially if guests stay over), extra shelving or storage (you need extra places to put gifts!), a Christmas tree or seasonal decor. Hope this helps!

My friend and her husband bought their first house together, so they registered for things like tools, garden hose, “welcome home” mat, etc. at Sears.  Might be a little different, but it was practical for them. I also think you can never have enough linens.

I haven’t registered yet, but I will say from my friends’ experiences, don’t get too crazy… it’s tempting to just scan everything!  With few exceptions (like china and crystal if you want it), if you don’t think you will use something in the next few years, don’t register for it.  I have a few friends who have had tons of stuff just sitting in storage for years b/c it won’t fit in their kitchen, or they just have no need for it.

I agree about the blankets although we havent gotten any yet! Sheet sets too because if you have guests stay over you will need extra! Also, pots and pans and appliances that you need that are more on the expensive side. We registered for serving dishes and platters (including chips and dip, little snack caddies/trays and pitchers) because these are great for entertaining! Dont register for things just because some else tells you to or someone else has it in their home. Register for things you need and that you know you will use!
