Our wedding is November 7th. I want so badly to take our honeymoon right after the wedding, but we are planning to go to Greece. I have family there in Lefkada, and it has always been my dream to visit. This would truly be my dream honeymoon, and Fiance is happy with anything! 🙂
The only problem is, in November a lot of the hotels and restaurants shut down for the winter months. The ferry to Santorini doesn’t operate so you have to go to Mykonos and then get a connecting ferry on another island to get there. The weather is chilly and rainy. Not exactly what I was hoping for while I am in Greece exploring the beautiful beaches!
So, What do you think about taking a late honeymoon in, say, April? That just seems like SO FAR from the wedding, but it would be the soonest time that it gets warmer again in Greece. We live two hours from Vegas so we can take a mini-moon for a couple of days right after the wedding. But do you think that is too long to wait? Should we just take our chances with the weather??

You can do whatever you want that works for you.
For me a honeymoon is right after the wedding because of the timing, the feeling of destressing and enjoying your brand spankin new husband. To me, its just not the same and I wouldnt do it, I would just go somewhere else and plan that trip for 1 year anniversary or 5 year or just a vacation.

We’re getting married in May and then taking the honeymoon in August as we are going to Europe as well!

@nikole.powell.np: I would do a minimoon after the wedding and put the trip to Greece off until April. It’s not the same, but I went to Ireland last summer and it rained the entire time. I knew I was going during rainy season (and it was also the month where everyone goes on holiday so a lot of stuff was shut down), but I just wanted to go so much I figured it would be ok. I don’t regret going, but it was chilly and rainy and there were little outdoor activities we could do. I think putting it off till April makes a lot of sense!

I think its a great idea, a mini moon first and then off to Greece!

I agree with lefeymy! For me I really want our honeymoon to be right after the wedding, I want to get away and spend the week relaxing with my new husband! I think the honeymoon is important, if we didnt do it right after the wedding I would feel like it was just a vacation, it wouldnt have that new wedding excitment feelig to it. That being said you can always do a fun honeymoon someplace else and maybe for your 1 year anniversary go to Greece 🙂 You have to decide what you really want!

for us – it was so nice to get away and spend a week away together resting and relaxing after the wedding. BUT we got married in october and went to jamaicia and there was a tropical storm the entire time. We spent like 14 hrs a day sleeping and the rest of the time eating – which was fine and still so relaxing!
If I had it to do over again, I would have chosen a different location for a long honeymoon (whith nice weather!) or i would have taken a mini moon and gone to the beach in the summer.
If the weather is going to be rotten, you won’t enjoy it as much! Take a Mini-moon then go on your dream honeymoon in the Spring!
