A gel manicure is far less damaging to your nails than acrylics so I would definitely say gel. How do you remove the gel polish off your nails? Do you soak it off or peel it off? Peeling it is what damages the top of your nail making them more fragile and prone to breaking.

Personally, I really love acrylics, your nails look flawless once they’re done, and acrylic seems to be pretty darn strong. Granted, the only drawback is that they do kinda beat up your natural nails, but if you’re not having any luck going natural, I don’t think you have too much to lose!

Another thought- pretty random, but have you considered taking a prenatal vitamin? You don’t necessarily HAVE to be either trying to become pregnant/ be pregnant to take prenatals, they’re just vitamins jam-packed with all the good stuff plus extras for women. I’m currently expecting, and thus have been on regular prenatals for months now but my hair and nails grow like crazy from it, so maybe it could help you?

If your nails are super brittle or thin already (like mine) I wouldn’t do the acrylics because they are pretty rough on your nails. I really like acrylics too but my nails are so soft and they are destroyed afterwards. If you’ve done it in the past though, and everything turned out fine then I’d say go for it! just make sure to get them taken off at the salon as well!

Gels are my favorite because they’re much gentler and still super pretty!

I vote gel! It is better for your natural nail than getting acrylics. When I don’t have time to get them done at the salon, I’ve been doing my nails with the Essie Polishes and Essie Gel Top Coat and it turns out great!

I do NexGen, I like it because its not damaging to my nails and lasts for a longer period than gels.

Most likely your nails are growing like crazy from hormones. I know mine did. Also have brittle nails and super slow growing hair. Pregnancy was AMAZING for my hair, nails and skin. 🙂

I have the same issues as you, except have pretty long nail beds. But otherwise, you are speaking to me! ha.

Gel is still the best. It last longer, and if I make sure I dont pick at them and properly take the polish off and get another manicure or polish change, I can get some decent growth.

Recently I did gel powder overlay, followed by a straight set of acrylics, then I just really wanted my natural nails back. For me, thats gel polish.

gel nails but soak off, don’t use the shaving machine. also when you get the manicure, don’t let them use the dremel hand tool to shave off the top layer of your nail – that also weakens the nail

I would do gel! I won’t do them regularly because i have the same problem with them making my nails weaker no matter how I take them off. But I figure for the wedding they’re my best bet. I’m not a delicate person so regular nail polish chips right away which drives me nuts and then i chip away at it. I figure slightly weak nails for a month or so after the wedding is better than risking mangled garbage nails at the wedding/in my photos.
