Hey Everyone,
We’re in the market for a VERY good vacuum for a household with a dog. We have a lab, so there’s a pretty good amount of shedding going on.
I have allergies + asthma, so I’d really like something high quality that WORKS on the hair, dust, etc that comes along with owning a dog ๐ We’ll spend anything up to about $500-$600 if it helps my health!
Does anyone have any suggestions backed by personal experience?
Thank you!!

I think Dyson is supposed to be the best but they are expensive. If I had the money, I would totally get one because they are AMAZING.
I have a Bissell (pet edition). We have a friend who comes over who is allergic & has asthma & if we vacuum early in the day than he has no issues being at the house usually. However, we have 2 dogs right now & we vacuum & now our friend can’t come over because he’ll get an allergy attack :(. The Bissell vacuum was only around $150 at Walmart. Before that I’d only had cheap $20 vacuums & so I was VERY impressed with my Bissell. If we had the money, we’d probably get either a higher quality Bissell or a Dyson.
You may also want to get an air purifier. Dust & dander can float around & the purifier will help. Especially because sometimes vacuuming will stir up stuff.

As far as portable vacuums, I too have heard the dyson is the best.
Although, I’ve also heard central vac is WAY more powerful, and if your house is roughed in for a central vac, or if you don’t mind doing the reno for it (if you’re a home owner) then I have been HIGHLY suggested to getting a central vac. which I will, once I save up the money. (It’s about as expensive, maybe a bit more than a dyson, and it will increase the value of your home).

@canthugallcats: Thanks for the info. We’ll definitely look into the Dysons. We just got a HEPA filter so hopefully that will help as well ๐

@.twist.: Great suggestion – thanks! We’re house hunting beginning in May so that could definitely be an option at that point.

Can say the Dyson Animal is great. These are our beauties

and the Black Lab malts and sheds alot of hair ๐ The ridgebacks seem to create more of a dust than hair. Love my Dyson.

@CatyLady: Aww what cuties! We have a black lab too, but he’s still a baby! I can only imagine how his shedding is going to be once he gets older! Looks like Dyson is the way to go!

@.twist.: I want this! My friend’s family has this & it is AMAZING! I forgot that this is even possible. I know that there were a lot of extensions you can add onto this too. Is this something we could add on ourselves or do we need a professional to instal it?

@MrsMaine: Aww bless him. Yeah I would, it will work wonders with his hair. I know they’re expensive, but I’ve found it worth it.

I have tried many vaccuums and the Dyson Animal edition is by far the best! Its expensive but so worth it to not have pet hair flying all over the place.

Dyson- but you don’t have to get the “Animal” one- that just has an extra attachment.

@canthugallcats: well, I know people have done it themselves. I have NO idea what that involves though, or if those people are really handy.
Luckily, our house is already roughed in, so we just need all the hoses and all that for it!
There are a few different brands, but here is one http://www.beamvac.com/
Just snoop their website, they may have info on self instalation or prices and what-not.
