I like my Dyson.  There are better vaccums out there, but my Dyson works well- you don’t need to expensive “animal” one either!

    DYSON!

Ours is a couple years old and still works like day 1. We also have a dog that sheds like crazy.

My ILs Dyson is even older and they have 3 dogs and 2 cats and they love it!

Dyson! I have a Newfoundland dog and a long-haired cat. I have broken/clogged/set on fire many vacuums before the Dyson. The Dyson not only does the best job of any vacuum I have tried, but it is easy to clean/maintain and holds up well.

Oreck little hero is amazing for beds and couches. I’m not sure about rugs (the little hero is handheld) since we have hardwood but I would look into Oreck to see if the have something similiar to the hero for floors.

We have the Dyson Animal ball and it’s amazing. Our cat sheds like crazy and it works wonders.

I’m going to echo everyone else and say DYSON! We got the DC28 Animal earlier this year and LOVE it… We had 3 dogs and 2 cats when we got it, we are down to four and lost our biggest shedder but it’s still amazing. My only gripe is that the canister doesn’t pull off separately to make stairs easier, and I have two flights of them in my home. However, we had the Bissell Pet before and it used to literally fall over on me all the time when I was using the hose w/ attachment…painful, and made me so mad! It took almost no effort for it to topple over. The Dyson is much more sturdy, easy to empty, clean, etc. Love.

ETA: We got the Bissell when we first moved in together/bought our home..We moved in in March 2009…it couldn’t handle the hair (despite being pet version) and the brushes stopped working and it just was useless by the end of last year.

    Damn iPhone. Double post.

I will add… Before we got it, we had an Electrolux stick vacuum that hardly picked up anything. I swear, our carpets changed color after the first round with the Dyson.

We’s got a Dyson upright, the DC25 Animal I believe it is. Maybe the new ones are better, but with two dogs, this thing just doesn’t stand up to it. Maybe it we cleaned daily, but we don’t.

I wish we got something other than the Dyson – I’m not really a fan of it anymore. Now I’m stuck with an expensive vacuum that doesn’t clean that well. Ugh!

And it is horrible with stairs! That extension just doesn’t work out that well. I’ve been smacked by a falling vacuum way too many times because of it. We’ve got two sets of stairs, all carpet. It’s a HUGE PITA! I still use my 10+ year old canister vacuum when I do them at times..

I have a heeler mix too so I completely understand what your going through!  Our boy sheds like CRAZY!!!!  Just petting him will get you covered in hair, even worse if he’s stressed!

I definitely think I’m going to look into getting a dyson, our bissel is good, but it does clog a lot… our eureka was even worse!

This is going to sound odd, but I have a ton of hair and I shed like crazy! Every vacuum I’ve owned gets a ton of my long hair tangled on it’s brushes and I have to cut it out of there! Maybe this is Too Much Information for which I am sorry lol but what’s a good vacuum for that kind of thing?
