I’m commenting just to follow along. I’m looking for a new vacuum to tackle pet hair and cat litter also. I’m hoping to find something compact and light.

@peachacid:  I’ll let you know when I get home what we have – it was like $200 (maybe less) from target and is a pet vac and it’s awesome! They advertise it as better than dyson (who knows – we just got a dyson pet so will let you know which is better when we get around to using it!)

okay, just found it online…it’s the eureka airspeed pet. $129!  Best cheap vacuum I’ve ever had! Our dog sheds like nobodies business.

We just bought a Eureka Airspeed model AS1001A and love it! The suction on this thing is ridiculous. The best part is it was just around $100. We bought it as a basic first vacuum but it really is exceeding expectations!

It comes with an awesome hose attachment that gets edges and corners really well.

They also have a pet hair vacuum model AS1002A. We haven’t tried it because ours works well with pets, but it has great reviews!

I have a Miele Contour Vacuum (S2) and its fantastic. I have dark laminate floors and dog and cat pet hair all throughout my house and it gets everything.. even cat litter.  It uses bags and has a few attachments.  Definitely recommend it, this is your US version..

I own the Dyson Animal, and I love it! It sucks up all my pet hair and the cat litter too! It also has a long hose with various attachments that are great for vacuuming corners and stairs.

I actually own three vacuums.  I have two Dysons, but honestly, my FAVORITE vacuum for picking up cat hair is the Eureka Boss Smart Vac.  This thing is the BOMB.  And it costs like $150.

I actually think (on some surfaces) the Eureka outperformed the Dyson.  The Dyson did better on hard floors, though.

Another vote for the Dyson Animal. It’s awesome!
