I have tried just about everything and the best thing I’ve came up with is a mix of water, small amount of white vinegar and a drop of dishwashing liquid. I use a mop with a microfiber cloth on it and I wash it between cleaning the floor. For spot cleaning, I use either Method or Pledge hardwood floor cleaner and a microfiber cloth.

There’s some stuff at Home Depot that’s really good too (I can’t remember the name, sorry) but I find that if I use it on a regular basis it starts to leave residue.

I use the Shark jet mop and I love it!  It’s super easy (just water), works quickly and leaves a really nice shine.  The only thing I would say is that it’s just going to push around crumbs or dirt on the floor so you’ll want to sweep/vacuum first before polishing it up.  But it does great with footprints, etc.

I’m actually in the same boat you are, but we recently bought the Shark 2 in 1 Vac/Steamer. It works great, but I recently learned I shouldn’t steam the floors very often because it could cause buckling. But this may also be because our floors are laminate. Either way the vac is amazing because when I used the steamer alone I felt liek I was just pushing durt around Undecided.

@BreezyBride24 – thanks for the follow up!  I’ve been thinking about getting the 2 in 1 so sounds like it would be a good investment!

I vacuum first (Shark Navigator, love it) and then use the Bona system, which is a spray and microfiber pad.  It works great and no water is involved that could possibly damage the floors.  I get it at Lowe’s or Home Depot.

I take the “low maintenence” approach with our hardwood (we only have it in our living room that is mostly covered with area rug and hallway) so basically I just sweep/swiffer then use swiffer wetjet if it’s gross.  If I feel particularly motivated I will use Mop & Glo, but for whatever reason it makes our floor REALLY slippery… they’ll look amazing and it protects them well, but if I can’t walk on my floor with socks on without falling it’s probably not the best idea. lol

@Bazinga:   That sounds nice!  I might try that when my Bona runs out.  🙂

@Sunfire Do it! It shines the floors nice without making them slippery and it just smells awesome. I’m so happy it’s nicer out here so I can open the windows and clean the floors and just have the almond scent travel around the house!

@Bazinga:   I like the fact that you said it’s non-toxic, that’s important to me!  🙂

Murphy’s wood soap makes my floors look freshly polished and new. Mix 1/3 cup of soap with 1 gallon of water, then get on your hands and knees with a Micro-fiber cloth and get to work! Its tough on the knees but its the only method that works to remove all the dirt and grime from my high polished pine floors – leaves them streak free too!

Plus its mostly made from all natural ingredients and non-toxic to humans and pets. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.

@Sunfire- It lists the ingredients right on the link I posted and it explains what they are for people who are not super smarty pants (I am not a smarty pants). Laughing
