What if you just don’t have a card box and have a welcome attendant/greeter to receive the cards and have people sign the guest book as they enter.  Or have the box out with an attendant who can take the box/cards to a secure location once everone has arrived.

We hired plainclothes security guards for our wedding so they were able to keep an eye on it.  Once all the guests arrived, the venue owner and my planner had it locked away in a secure location.

Also agree with what PP said.

This may be a crazy idea, but maybe you could put rocks/weights at the bottom of the card box? That way if anyone tries to tug at it to take it, it’ll be stuck in place?

We had our card box at the beginning of our receiving line, once our receiving line was done. Our card box was locked in our bridal suite.

A friend was at a wedding where the entire box was stolen so it doesn’t matter how you lock it. Best to have someone watching it.

My DOC moved the card box into our room once people started dinner, but the box itself wasnt locked or nailed down.

They put all our cards in a bag and my uncle watched that bag all night. Kind of funny but he wanted to and we trusted him to do that, and nothing happened.

Our venue wouldn’t allow us to put them anywhere in their office or anything because of liability.

I like the PPs advice about putting something heavy in the bottom! Otherwise I’d get rid of it after cocktail hour. Here a lot of people move the card box and gifts (here people bring gifts to the wedding, I know some places you mail them) into their hotel room or someone’s vehicle. Card boxes are very easily stolen, usually by outsiders, but could very well be guests too. Since you’re worried about it I’d have it in a common area till dinner and then take it away.

Cards got stolen out of my Mom’s box at her wedding. So I bought a locking wooden card box and plan to put a 5 lb weight in the bottom of it. After cocktail hour my step-Dad is going to lock the box in his car. I’m also putting the gift table in a very central location (not tucked away in a corner).

We are having a locking box (our friends are making it for us) made out of wood. Hoping that our coordinator can keep an eye on it and put it away once dinner starts. I’m so nervous about it being stolen.
