I like Idealist, but then, I’m looking for work in the non profit sector 🙂

and no, no success yet :/ but I’ve been working through a temp agency and that’s going great!

I have found it easier to research companies you want to work for and then visit their website or contact their HR department. I don’t really trust job search websites to provide me everything there is, plus visiting websites allows me to do some homework on the company too.

In the public sector, a lot of agencies use http://www.governmentjobs.com.  And I’ve seen a lot of agencies (yes, even in Cailfornia!) are ending their hiring freezes recently and may be posting more jobs.

I’ve used http://www.indeed.com before, it was pretty good – it pulled in a lot from the other search engines!

I had the best success applying for jobs directly on the potential company’s website instead of the listing agencies and job boards.
