I was thinking of the best way to describe a wedding- I think a good way is to listen to the compliments people give you at the reception about the wedding.
1. happiest bride they’d ever seen
2. loved the church music- we had a Catholic wedding and I spent a few years playing guitar in a rock band at Mass, so we had some “off the beaten path” music I spent a lot of time on, and one of our friends did the singing
3. meaningful service
4. that it was really “us”
My favorite was my aunt who said, “If I were getting married now, that is exactly the kind of wedding I would want.” This was especially nice after we put it together on a limited budget in four months while we were working a combined 130 hours a week.
What were yours?

Our ring bearer still talks about how great the food was!
But mostly that everyone loved how relaxed and fun it was and how happy we both were- which is true, happiest day of my life so far.
People told me that I was glowing- I told them that it is because they have never seen me wear make-up before 😉

I’ve been told by many people how happy and relaxed I was – I spent 2 hours in the day spa that morning which probably explains it 🙂 When Darling Husband saw people during the day who told him how relaxed I was, he says it made him feel a lot better and less nervous.
People said it was very “us” and personal – we had some good readings and did the “wine in the box” ritual which didn’t work bc the bottle didn’t fit! Hilarity ensued.
A 13 year old who hates dresses said she loved mine.
DH’s 21 year old cousin kept saying to her boyfriend “that’s what I want at our wedding” HA! sorry boyfriend.
Two female friends of DH’s got into some kind of wrestling match late in the evening and one ended up with a bleeding head. DH’s male friends thought this made it the best wedding they’d ever been to. I was of course mortified!
Several people said my sister’s speech was the best bridesmaid speech they’d ever heard.
We had a great day but it’s even better when you hear your guests say how much they loved the location, the food, the favours, the music, all those details you put so much thought into. Makes it all worthwhile in the end!

ooh. this is a good one…
my favorite was “best food ive ever had at a wedding” which i heard several times. (dinner was pretty darn good and there was a lot of it).
my other favorite was from my photographer who kept looking at the screen on her camera and going “wow”. i have yet to see the pictures to confirm the “wowness” but i thought that was a good sign 😉

Reading some of the replies made me think of some other things. Despite our caterer being a nightmare, reneging on their contract, closing the bar early and serving the wrong menu, one of my friends still talks about the beef brisket.
Our band- they played 4 hours with only one break! Awesome!
My mom made buckeyes for each table (I am a huge Ohio State fan), and two of my friends did “buckeye races” with buckeyes on spoons. I have heard many good things about hte buckeyes.
For the father-daughter dance, my dad and I boogied to Bad Bad Leroy Brown (this is “his song.”) It worked really well since FH’s mom died and we didn’t want to draw too much attention to the fact that he wasn’t dancing with her.

As terrible as it is, J’s cousin thanked us for “raising the bar back up” in regards to their family’s wedding.
I think my biggest compliment though was the dance “floor”. The rental people fell through and couldn’t provide us with the wooden floor we had ordered so we just danced on the grass. We all danced so long and so hard the dirt was packed down to the point that rocks were coming up. It was fantastic. I’m actually glad we didn’t have a real floor, though I would be happier if the company had refunded us the money for it since it was their own fault.

We did a tango at our reception as my husband and I both did Ballroom dancing in college. One of my bridesmaids later told me that his 80-year-old grandmother was watching us, cried, and told the her, “That boy has been the light of my life. And now to see him dancing as a man at his wedding – it just makes my whole life all worth it. I was put on this Earth to see this.”
One of my other family friends, who is in her 70s, a no-nonsense person who has seen a lot in her life, very genuinely told us “I simply can’t imagine two people who love each other as much as you do. I don’t think I have ever seen it.”
One of our guests thought our ceremony should be published. She was perfectly serious lol. We wrote the whole thing ourselves with our officiant.
My girlfriends made hundreds of cupcakes for the wedding – we only bought a top cake. At the farewell brunch the next morning, people were asking if we had any more of those amazing cupcakes.
My piano teacher played music for our ceremony – and everyone wanted to know how to get his CDs. He does perform as well, though he’s not super famous or anything. But he’s an amazing person inside and out.
And when my little sister spoke, everyone cried.

So many people told us it was the most fun they had ever had at a wedding, which we totally agreed with! And people young and old loved our rock band for the reception and packed the dance floor all night!

My favorite compliments ::
1)I glowed and grinned from ear to ear when I saw my groom and so many people noticed it and commented on this.
2) Best wedding cake they’ve eaten/ best wedding food
3) The slideshow I made of me and my dad for our dance. Everyone loved this personal touch.
4) the music! So many people said my ceremony music was PERFECT.

My husband’s grandmother went to 5 weddings last year and said that ours was her favorite. We had 30 guests, everything was DIY except the DJ and photog, and it was shorter than many weddings (11-3), but it was wonderful!
Everybody said it was the perfect wedding for us! AND it was! 🙂

My favorite comments:
One guest said she had never seen such a beautiful ceremony-that it was absolutely perfect! (My hubby and I created the whole ceremony ourselves) and many others said it was one of the nicest weddings they’d every been too
We received rave reviews on the food and cake and signature drinks
80% of the guests danced and danced and danced. Our DJ and everybody else said they’d never seen such awesome dancing at a wedding.

A friend of mine who has attended something like 20 weddings in the last few years told me mine was hands down the best.
Two of my cousins told me that when they first saw me they gasped and looked at each other and said “she’s so beautiful.”
My aunt asked if her daughters could borrow my dress.
A neighbor (who has had his two daughters get married recently) told my parents I was the most beautiful bride he’s ever seen.
My dad’s best friend called the next day just to tell my mom how beautiful the whole wedding was. (funny because he’s not the type of guy to rave about weddings).

Mine was “your ass looks AMAZING in that dress!”

First of all I want to say the guests that take the time to give a heartfilled compliment just ROCK!!!! Finding specifics that are great when I attend a wedding from now on will be a MUST. Brides, groom and their family LOVE to hear what was meaningful.
“cousins and sorority sisters who said “YOU SET THE BAR”
my more than honest sister…. “Wish there were a rewind button to do it all again”
my daughter’s face, said it all with the smile that stayed on it all day!
