Yeah…same thing happened to me.  I got a killer IN SEASON Vera Wang.  I am about a 4 and the dress is a sample size 10 ( I think I would probably need a sample size 6).  I went to 4 people before someone quoted me less than $1000 to do the alterations.  The key is to have the alterations done outside of a bridal salon.  In the end, I found an incredible couturier to do my alterations for about about 1/4 of the crazy $1200 I was quoted from several ‘bridal’ alteration salons.  Bridal salons know they can charge you a fortune for what a good seamstress or tailor would charge a pittance.  It’s like getting an oil change at the dealership vs your neighborhood goodyear.  Keep the dress and check yelp.com for an outstanding and reputable seamstress in your area.
