- Wedding: November 2011
We were married on November 11th, 2011 (11/11/11). We contacted a company out of Aurora, Ontario, called Soiree Sophisticates in June 2011 to do our videography for our wedding. I rec’d an e-mail from ‘Julie’ stating that they would be able to provide the service for $600 (as was advertised on Kijiji), and she asked that I send her a 50% deposit ($300). I should’ve been suspicious when she insisted that I pay her through my bank, rather than through PayPal or my credit card company (which I preferred to do), but after seeing her website with the impressive wedding videos, and seeing that they’d been in business for quite some time, I trusted Julie and sent the deposit money through my bank. A few months passed and I hadn’t yet heard anything back from the company, so I sent an e-mail stating that I was a bit worried because I hadn’t heard back from them…and our wedding date was quickly approaching. Julie sent me an e-mail in response, telling me not to worry…..and assured me that we would be contacted a month before the wedding to get all of the information/particulars for our big day. About 3 weeks before our wedding, I attempted to send an e-mail to Julie, as I hadn’t yet heard from anyone from Soiree Sophisticates in regard to videographing our wedding. The e-mail address that I had, no longer worked….my e-mail messages to Julie came right back to me. I attempted to e-mail her numerous times, but my e-mails continued to bounce back to me. I tried to access the website of Soiree Sophisticates, but it was apparent that it no longer existed. I had no phone number to contact her as she had indicated in a previous e-mail to me that she didn’t communicate via phone with her clients….communicated only through e-mail because she was so busy. (??) (Made no sense, really). Being as our wedding was only 3 weeks away and I hadn’t yet been contacted by Soiree Sohpisticates (and wasn’t able to contact them), I had to arrange for another company to video our wedding. I continued to try to conatct Julie through e-mail, however my e-mails continued to bounce back.
The NIGHT BEFORE our wedding, at approx. 10:30 p.m., we received a phone message from a videographer, representing Soiree Sophisticates, stating that he wanted to get the details of our wedding as he would be our videographer. We couldn’t believe our ears when we retrieved the message at about midnight, following our rehearsal dinner, THE NIGHT BEFORE OUR WEDDING!! We called the number provided and the man stated that he was under the impression that Julie had contacted us in the past few days. (which really didn’t explain why he hadn’t called us earlier to get the information in regard to our wedding). I told him that we hadn’t heard from anyone from Soiree Sophisticates in the past few months, and even though we’d already given a deposit, we had to find another videographer….afterall, we couldn’t wait until the very last night before our wedding to trust that we had a videographer scheduled for our wedding!! I continued to attempt to contact Julie via e-mail, but my e-mails were bounced back to me repeatedly. I never did get my $300 back….and never heard back from Julie. I’m so disappointed in Julie for taking our money without providing the service, as agreed upon…..she ripped us off for $300….her fraudulent actions certainly made me lose faith in people, in general. Shame on Julie and Soiree Sophisticates!!
