I’ve always had low progesterone. I had two MCs because of it and I had spotting as a result of low progesterone with this pregnancy. Because of my progesterone issues my doctor put me on prometrium right away this time. I started on 2 prometriums pills taken vaginally at night (when taken vaginally your body absorbs more of the hormone than when they’re taking orally). At just about 5.5 weeks I started having some spotting and we checked my progesterone again. It was still a little low so my doctor put me on twice a week progesterone in oil shots along with 1 prometrium nightly. I was on that dosage until 2 weeks ago when I weaned off. Unfortunately I’m back on it now but everything is still looking good with my baby!

The good news is that low progesterone is VERY easy to treat when they catch it early and it sounds like you guys did πŸ™‚ I highly recommend making sure that the doctor follows up with your progesterone levels. Mine checks them every 2 weeks with a blood draw and adjusts my dosages based on the results. Also, if you have ANY spotting at all let your doctor know since that could indicate a progesterone drop. If that happens it’s so easy for them to change your dosage to resolve the issue. I have a lot of experience with this so please feel free to PM me with any specific questions!

@Wispy:  You’re welcome!!! After my two early miscarriages I’m now 16 weeks and this pregnancy started out with low progesterone too. Don’t worry too much, just be vigilant πŸ™‚ Let me know how your repeat blood work goes!

I took the suppository. Just wear a panty liner, but no side effects other than that.

i think the fact that you’re treating it quickly before you had any spotting is a good thing!  Like Elley said, progesterone is an easy thing to fix/treat!

@Wispy:  First off – congrats! I went to the doctor for a blood test at 5 weeks and she said my progesterone was low so I started taking Prometrium the next day. I’m 8 weeks now and haven’t had any spotting and am having all the normal pregnancy symptoms. She did tell me to take it at night because it could make you tired, but I’m so exhausted way before I even take it that I don’t even notice.  πŸ™‚

I’ve been on all the forms- orally, vaginally and the shots. What’s good is you caught it early, that’s excellent! Wear a panty liner and you are good to go πŸ™‚

@Wispy:  I think that only applies if you’re taking it vaginally. I take it orally and don’t have any major problems in that area. πŸ™‚
