Does anyone else have a bincornuate uterus? My utuerus is shaped like a “heart” with two separate cavaties. It would be great to hear of other’s experiences with this. I did not know I had this condition until my first sono and now I have a whole new thing to worry about.

I was told after a sonogram that I have either a septum in my uterus (an extra piece of tissue hanging down in the middle of the uterus) or a bicornuate uterus. I carried my first baby to 41 weeks 3 days, and I am currently 14 weeks pregnant with #2.
From what I understand, with a bicornuate uterus, usually there is no effect at all on pregnancy. If it is severe, it can hinder the baby’s growth as pregnancy progresses, but as long as you are under the care of an OB who is aware of the issue and is looking for signs of any trouble, you and the baby will be ok. There are drugs they can give you to help prevent early labor, etc. Again, this is all in the unlikely circumstance that your bicornuate uterus is severe. Most women with this condition carry to term with no problem at all, and in fact, most women don’t even know that they have this.
Long story short, don’t worry. Your doc will monitor you, and most likely it won’t have any effect on your pregnancy at all. Good luck!
