I have no idea what this shindig is going to end up costing in the end but it certainly keeps growing.   I am very thankful that my parents are supporting the costs of this – if they weren’t I would have been perfectly content with a small dinner (sometimes I wonder if I should have just done that anyway). I blame some of the costs on the NYC proximity.

So far:

Dress:$5500 + alerations?

Venue site fee: $10,000

Catering: $35,000+ (don’t know final guest count yet)

Quartet: $2,000

DJ: $2,000

Photographer: $6800

Invitations + calligraphy : $2600

Hair and Makeup: $300

Officiant: $600

Wedding planner: $7000+ (percentage of total event cost)

Still to do are florals, transportation, and linens+rentals.  Oy.

When coming up with an overall budget for your wedding do you HAVE to include the price of rings and such!? we were  kicking around budget numbers and originally we wanted 50K but to me it just seems too high for one day—so I was thinking 40K instead but if we facter in rings it goes astronomically high my Fiance let me pick out my setting for my ring and the shape of diamond and with customizations and the size and clarity of my diamond that my fiance picked, my ring total is 30K and fiance wants his ring customized so that’s about 7-8k and not including a wedding band yet…I have only the price of my wedding planner so far…but my ring wont be done til a few days and even then i have to wait for him to officialy porpose again.

kaity.velazquez:  You can do whatever you like 🙂   I didnt factor in the cost of our rings, the cost of my dress, the cost of our engagement photos (done by our freinds, but we paid them the going rate and bought them dinner), the costs I’m paying for my bachelorette (flight and hotel), the cost of my bridal shower (my mother is paying for the catering), etc.

WeddingBecks: Spectacular!. I almost had a heart attack! i don’t feel comfortable telling people about the budget with everthing involved. I guess if i don’t factor in my wedding dress and such i can tell the event planner we want to spend 40k on venue, food, photoggrapher/ videographer, cake, decorations, makeup and hair, dj.

Oh my God, I almost want to hate you right now for putting this in my head…..

We really don’t have a budget, we are just going with it I guess…. our guest list right now is at 450 and I am really hoping it stays there (unless Future Mother-In-Law gets her sticky claws into it again….)

We are paying for it ourselves, my Fiance is really stubborn and doesn’t want to take anyone’s money. His parents are paying for the live band and dj, my parents are doing the rehearsal….

So far…… oh boy

Venue, 40 thousand give or take. It includes catering, decorations, very middle eastern style

Valet parking for guests, 1200  (we didn’t want our guests to pay for valet so we are)

Dress, 2000

Rings, 2500

Photo/Video, 6000

Alcohol, 15 thousand (we are doing bottle service on each table, Syrian tradition)

Bridal party gifts, Somewhere around 2700

Favors, 2700

That’s all we got so far. Still need cake, flowers, invitations, tuxes, limos…. holy crap I have a lot to do.

Honeymoon is booked, not sure if I want to include that to the total….. 20 thousand.

That’s…. somewhere over 70 thousand so far. I am going to pretend I didn’t reply to this…. and go get myself a cup of coffee before freak out.

I can’t wait to see pictures from all of your fabulous events!!!!

saritacg7:  Yeah….. I’ve already asked the Fiance if we can just drive to Vegas and get it over with multiple times…. I hate the fact that 450 people are going to be staring at me all day.

Out of all those people, my total is 63 which is about normal….. My Fiance has family hiding under rocks, behind trees…. it is unfreakingbelievable!!!!!!!! ugh

I love reading this. It’s so funny to see how people slit things up differently. We will land in the $50k to $60k range, but some things we were super budget on.

Venue: $22,000 (food, open bar, cake)

Rental: $1600

Florals/Decorations/Draping: $9,000

Linens: $1,000

My look: $5,000 (with alterations and accessories)

His look: $200

DOC: $1000

Photo/Video/Photo station: $7500

Transport: $2000

Ceremony (location and officiant): $2000

Invites/Paper goods: $350

Hotel cost for us and Bridal Party: $1500

Honeymoon: FREE! (I travel for work A LOT and used points for our hotel suite, first class flights, car rental, and gift cards for incidentals at the hotel)

sara79:  My family has 3 girls and everything was equal. Not sure how my parents would have done boys. I am fairly certain they would have helped a lot. All of the grooms’ parents paid for booze and the rehearsal, which was very nice of them.

Hi!  I got married in 2012, here was our breakdown (I’m only mentioning the big ticket items and not miscellaneous): Venue/Food/Drink: $32,000 My dress: $5,000 (that includes alterations) Tux: $900 Florist: $4,000 Photographer: $6500 DJ/Videographer: $3800 Paper products: $2000 Wedding bands: $3500 Day of planner: 1250 There were a ton of other random items (transportation, welcome bags, accessories, hair, makeup, etc) so the total price that we spent was about $70k

This does NOT include the honeymoon that we spent about 15k on.

kaity.velazquez: Hi Kaity, just a word of caution – when I said that you can set your wedding budget however you like, I meant that personally.  I’m not sure exactly how a wedding planner would calculate their fee although it’s often a % of your event – but I’m not sure if that includes all the vendors they book for you – or all vendors for your event even if you find them yourself?

On another note, (unless these girls gang up on me and tell me otherwise) your engagement ring is NOT part of the wedding budget – and no one (including your event planner) DOES NOT have to know how much it cost!!

Girls, out of curiousity – how does a wedding planner work as far as the % rate based on your entire event, I mean, if I book my own photog, would the cost of that photog still be included in the % – if she / he didnt find them for me?
