Hi folks, I’m a long-time-stalker, first-time-poster on these boards! I’m getting married in just over two months and I’m having second thoughts about my hairpiece. I’m not wearing a veil, so I made a headband out of some lace trim that matches my dress and a couple of fabric flowers. My dress is lace and tea-length. Because of the style of the dress and the large hair flowers, I’m a little worried about looking like a flower girl rather than a bride.
Here are some photos of the dress (sorry they’re so low quality, I don’t have the dress with me currently and this is the best I have).

So here’s the headpiece I made. Once again, I’m sorry I don’t have a better picture — but hopefully you get the idea. The headband actually has little alligator clips that clip just behind my ears; it doesn’t wrap all the way around. (I wanted it to be comfortable to wear.)

What do you guys think? Be brutally honest! Thanks!

I love your dress but personally I feel the flowers are a little on the large side. COuld you wear the headband without the flowers?

leahloughran: That big wide headband does remind me of baby headbands. I like the idea but the execution, with the thick lace, brings me back to a time I cannot recall.

LilRhodyGem: hahaha. Yes, after seeing that picture I might just have to totally ditch the headpiece. I was inspired by this piece:

but I just couldn’t afford it and wanted to save some money. Maybe I’ll just bite the bullet. What do you think of that?

leahloughran: I’m not a huge fan of the headband but not because it’s “childish”. I think it’s silly when Brides belittle something because it’s “childish”. Ummm hello, we are all grown women wearing tulle/satin/organza/whatever dresses…if that doesn’t scream princess what does.

With a tea-length dress, I think it’s adorable!

leahloughran: I have short hair too and I do think you are headed in an AWESOME direction. Keep looking and keep posting! Your dress is fabulous by the way. Really great.

Your dres is so beautiful! I do like the headband and props on making it, but I might skip it–I looked at that first before I looked at your dress, so it was a bit distracting. What about a different headpiece, or a birdcage-type veil for the ceremony and then just a clip for the reception? Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback so far! TBH I was doubting the headpiece the moment I made it, but everyone I asked said they liked it — probably just trying to be nice
I’m pretty sure I want to just buy a headpiece now. I’m between a simple tulle blusher veil and the original inspiration for what I made. Here are links for each. Which one do you think would work better? (My hair has grown out since the pic above and should be a nice chin-to-shoulder-length bob for the wedding. I’m planning to wear it down in soft curls.)
Option 1: https://www.etsy.com/listing/101978185/bridal-half-wreath-rose-and-lace?ref=shop_home_feat_3
Option 2: https://www.etsy.com/listing/105391415/birdcage-veil-tulle-teardrop-soft-white?ref=sr_gallery_34&ga_search_query=bridal+mini+veil&ga_ship_to=US&ga_page=5&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery
Thoughts?

I don’t think the one you made looks childish. It’s definitely not my style, but I think it looks really nice with your dress and hair. It sort of reminds of something from the 20’s. I also like that it looks comfortable enough to wear for more than just the ceremony. I think if that’s the look you are going for (retro/20’s), the first etsy posting is better. Otherwise, I would go with #2.

Not a fan 🙁 the lace band is wide like a pp mentioned & then combined with fliwers seems too much. I’d just make one of the flowers into a fascinator.
