Why not buy the big gift for the wedding and give a small shower gift?

@EleanorRigby:  +1.  That’s what I was thinking.  Save the bigger gift for the wedding and get something smaller for the shower.  You can even buy the bigger gift now for the wedding, so no one steals your gift 🙂

If you give them the bigger gift at the shower, you could do a nice card wishing them well for the wedding.

Agreed.. smaller gift for shower.. bigger gift for wedding.  Wedding is the bigger more important event.

Since you think she really wants to have the gift before the wedding I think it’s fine to buy that for her for the shower and just get a nice card with maybe something really small but thoughtful for the wedding.

Out of curiosity, what’s the gift?

I have to agree with all the other Bees. Get a little $20 something for the shower and give the budget buster as the wedding gift!

I said that it’s totally ok to give it to them at the shower.  However – it might be a little weird when everyone else is like “DAMN!”  You can always ship it to them with a wedding card prior to that time, then get a small gift for the shower (or something to go with it), so they’d have both.

We got tons of wedding gifts ahead of time.  Now we didn’t use ours, but you could include a note that you wanted them to have it early so they’d get the idea that it was ok.

ETA: now that I see what it is (I was thinking Wii 🙂 ) send it ahead and get them a cookbook with smoothie recipies for the shower!

Technically, you aren’t supposed to use your shower gifts before the wedding anyway, just in case the wedding doesn’t happen (not that their wedding won’t happen). I still think I would save it for the wedding, but that’s just me.

I’ve given just a shower gift before. I don’t see why it doesn’t count as a wedding present too honestly!

Did they actually register for this gift? Because I’d be really reluctant to give a gift that is in any way related to weight loss, no matter how much the couple had hinted they wanted the gift or mentioned they wanted to lose weight, unless they specifically registered for the item.

My mom got my sisters and I each a bathroom scale for christmas gifts one year and let me tell you… that was heartbreaking. For every single one of us.
