Beautiful place. Can recommend Julia Pffeifer Campground… both camping and lodges there. You can stay in Big Sur Llodge there I think.

Or more luxuriously Ventana Inn and Spa. I’m eyeing it up for my honeymoon!

I imagine there’s a tonne of places to hike. It’s so secluded and quiet surrounded by amazing scenery!!

Big sur is beautiful.  I would recommend staying in Carmel or Monterey and driving down to Big Sur for a day or something.  There are more places to stay and things to see in Carmel and Monterey.  Its an awesome area though.  While you are there you have to go to Spanish Bay at sunset and sit at the firepits.

Are you driving???  Amazing drive along highway one. What time of year you thinking of?

I’m hopefully going back for honeymoon in December… I got engaged in Big Sur.

I’m in Monterey County, and I second the PPs suggestion to stay in Monterey or Carmel and just drive to Big Sur for a day or two. There are amazing things to do and see here, and plenty of touristy activities to keep you occupied. I love Big Sur, but your options are either rustic (camping) or super fabulous (like Ventana Inn at $500/night). In Monterey and Carmel you can stay mid range for around $200/night. You could even do a drive to Santa Cruz for the day, or do wine tastings in Carmel Valley. Being in Monterey, you’re more centralized so theres just many more options for day excursions.

If you’re into hiking and camping, there’s a great overnight hike into the Sykes hot springs. I also highly recommend the Big Sur Bakery.

@TequilaSunrise:  If that’s your travel style you should definitely fly into San Jose or San Francisco. Spend a couple days in Big Sur, Monterey/Carmel, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, and up to Sonoma and Napa. Easily doable in 2 weeks, and you’d get to see the most beautiful parts of California. (not that I’m biased or anything!)

It is SO RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL there :-). My husband and I just did the Route 1 drive through there a month ago, and fell in love with it. There’s lots of hiking, romantic lodges, good restaurants, and beautiful beaches/scenery! It’s a great place for a honeymoon!

Well the PP have said all I could say.

I would highly recommend stopping and grabbing a bit at our favorite restaurant, Nepenthe’s. It is right there in Big Sur on the edge of a cliff, talk about dining with a view!

Also, make sure to check out Pfieffer Beach. It is easy to miss when driving but definitely worth keeping an eye out. http://www.yelp.com/biz/pfeiffer-beach-big-sur
