Hi Wedding Bees!
I’d love some advice on planning my wedding. I have several dilemmas I’m working with, as well as a budget. Oh boy!
Anyway, some background. My fiancé and I are both from the East Coast, me from NY and him from CT, but we’re both living in Los Angeles. We both have a good amount of family back East, and a good amount of friends in LA. Our guest list is about 50/50 split between both coasts. Although I know a lot of people in this same situation usually cater to the family, we’re leaning more towards having a California wedding because we want to share our new life (our house, dogs, friends) with our family. It’s also really hard to plan a wedding from 3,000 miles away!
My fiancé has very little input about the “look and feel” of the wedding, but he is very into having a woodsy wedding. And so am I. Great! At least we’re on the same page. But it’s hard (impossible?) to find something truly woodsy in LA, and the best outdoor venues are super $$$.
So we came up with an idea to have a small-ish wedding in magical Big Sur, California with close friends and family. And by small-ish, we mean about 25-30 people (hopefully). The idea is to have the wedding on Julia Pfeiffer Beach, which would be free (I think) because it’s a state park, and have a reception at a nearby restaurant. Lodging is expensive in Big Sur, but considering it’s not a lot of people, it shouldn’t be too bad. We can even offer for friends to camp, so they can save a good deal of money.
I’d love to hear from anyone that has had a Big Sur Wedding! Especially those with family flying in from out of town.
Now, to incorporate extended family and some friends, we could throw a big party in New York. We’re thinking about honeymooning in Europe (since we’ve both never been!), so it could serve as an extended stopover before we leave on our journey.
Has anyone done anything like this? I’d love to hear feedback!
