I had this debate. Destination weddings are gorgeous but I absolutely would have needed a party at home. So just one big wedding to begin with made more sense for us.

I really want the big wedding.  SO wants the destination wedding and couldn’t care less if it was just him and I.  I have a feeling we will either compromise with a destination wedding at AHR or a smaller, at home wedding.

We prefered to have our small DW and no other party. We saved our money to travel in Europe, Costa Rica and Cuba during our first year of marriage – before making babies.

Well mine is not a destination (we live here) though a lot of our family will have to come in from out of town.  But it’s not “big”….I’m estimating 80 guests.

I wanted a destination wedding, DH wanted a big wedding. I HAD no choice but to do the big wedding and I hated every bit of it…the year leading up to the wedding (stress, drama…). BUT in the end it turned out to be everything I could have ever wanted and more. So while I don’t think it was worth it to spend all that money, it was a dream wedding and I am happy DH made me do it. I wouldn’t change anything. It is an experience I will never forget AND a once in a lifetime thing. Plus he is his dad’s only child and I am the only girl and youngest and my brothers have both been married. (but let’s face it girls are way different!) When we actually went on our HM someone was getting married on the beach and I asked him if he would have liked it he said yes, but glad we had a big wedding (it was well over 225 people) I agree with him on that also.

DW sounds so nice. I had a big wedding but we were talking and when we hit year 5 or 10 we are doing a DW.
