My first instinct is a no on this.

What is the feel of your wedding? If it is outdoorsy you could punch a hole and tie twine around them.

Or, what I did, which was super simple, was punch a small hole and use an eyelet metal thingy (for the life of me can’t think of what they are called at the moment) but I put them in the top left corner of my programs and the pages could swivel around.

Now a tape with a pattern could work, just as long as its super complimentary with the design of your program. You could almost integrate it as if it looks like the tape design was supposed to be there serving as a border on one side.

I did a quick search and here a bunch fron etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/willowwashi?ref=seller_info_count

Instead of using an eyelet, just punch a hole and tie with ribbon.

If you are going to do your idea, do tape on the inside too.

If you can do it really neatly, I like the tape idea.  I think it could look less “homemade” than hole punches and twine/string.  Just draw a guide line with a ruler before applying the tape to make sure it’s perfectly straight and even.

@christineandjohn:  If you use tape, you would need to tape the inside as well so it will hold together properly.  Without the inside tape when it opens it run the risk of coming apart.

Here are some other ideas:

1. Punch two holes at the top and tie with a ribbon.

2. Punch two holes on the side and tie ribbon

3. Punch holes along the sides and stitch with twine or ribbon

4. Use eyelets
