rasmus:  In addition to proper nutrition, biotin does help hair grow faster. My stylist suggested that I take it because my hair is super thin. Recently, my doctor also recommended that I take vitamin D which also benefits hair.

Massaging your scalp a lot helps it to grow a bit faster

I took biotin and it made me break out like crazy. You have to drink a TON of water with taking the biotin and no matter how much I drank it didn’t seem to help. I would never do it again. As soon as I stopped taking it, my skin took a few weeks to clear

I used to take a shit ton of biotin and my hair definitely grew. I don’t know what to do with all this damn hair, but I’m not cutting it til after the wedding lol

Before. My hair has been about shoulder length for as long as I can remember. This is a couple of years ago:

    This was last September:

Also, as a pp touched on, my nails became amazing. I used to bite them like crazy and they were stubbs. Now, they are very long and look wonderful! I cring when I see pics of my nails from a couple of years ago.

rasmus:  I had heard that people can sometimes have an adverse reation to too much biotin so I wouldn’t start with too high a mg content. The side effects i’m speaking of are mainly acne—i’ve been too nervous to take biotin because years ago I was taking it and broke out…then years later I heard that was a possible side effect. WHo knows if I would still react the same way now, I always debate giving it another try.

For now, I do unrefined coconut oil mixed with liquid Vitamin E oil and massage it into my hair and scalp weekly (i leave it in over night) – I am loving that. Peppermint oil is great to massage into the scalp too because it encourages oxygen flow to the hair folicle.

It works for me but mostly to make my hair thicker instead of longer.  I definitely gained some length but my hair like tripled in thickness.  Each strand felt stronger/thicker if that makes any sense.

I don’t experience any breakouts but it does make me grow hair EVERYWHERE.  Anywhere I had even a little bit of hair got longer and thicker as well.  Eyebrows, underarms, chin, beaver — everywhere.  My waxing bill was starting to cost a fortune so I’m taking a brief break.

I’ve used it with good results. My hair’s been growing about an inch a month these days. I also has issues with it causing breakouts when I first started taking it, but I just reduced my dosage and cut up my pills so that I would only take 1/2 a day (and then reduced that even further to 1/4 a day when I thought my hair/nails were growing TOO fast!).

Personally, I haven’t noticed any difference in my hair with the biotin/keratin supplements. I definitely notice stronger nails, though. I am also breaking out really badly on it. It’s not big, gross breakouts, but a fine smattering of tiny blemishes all over my T-zone. I personally won’t be buying another bottle after this one runs out.

kcoast:  I have the same problem with biotin, taking vitamin e while on biotin stopped my breakouts.

I’ve been taking a vitamin for hair, skin, and nails that has biotin in it.  I’ve never taken straight biotin.  So far, with the vitamins I’m taking, I havent seen great results

Yes but in high doses it can cause headaches. I used to get headaches but I take it before I go to bed now, it caused one of my old coworkers to get migraines so be very careful if you started to get them.
