I use it mainly for the hair benefits.

Can’t say for sure if my nails got stronger since I get bio gel overlays so they never break anyway.  But they do grow pretty quick…

I take biotin for hair growth also and it seems to have helped with my postpartum excessive hair shedding. Nails grow pretty quickly too, only downfall is that hair EVERYWHERE grows like crazy 🙄

Biotin makes me break out. Not like, a couple of small white heads, I mean big nasty cysts all over my face that take week to heal and months to fade.

It’s a common side effect for some people, so I would approach with caution. Silica is also a really good suppliment without the nasty acne for me so I’m on team Silica any day of the week.

I started taking biotin to make my hair grow faster but I’ve definitely noticed a huge difference in the strength of my nails!

PP mentioned experiencing breakouts, make sure you drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated can help if you experience this.

I’ve taken Biotin before and it def. made my nails stronger and grow faster. I didn’t notice a difference with my hair though.

sbl99 :  Wow, I am wondering if this is what’s been happening with me! Hmm

I’ve been taking it for several months now, to  help my short hair grow for the wedding. Not sure if it does anything, as I usually have fake nails on, but my hair has grown from almost nothing to shoulder length in about 17 months

laceyjoxo :  I take a womens multi vitamin with extra biotin. It does seem to help. For me to grow my nails I just have to keep the polished. My natural nails bend, break, peel, and fall apart with no polish or just a clear coat.

laceyjoxo :  I don’t take biotin because I know I don’t drink enough water (even when I try hard) and the threat of an acne flair up from it scares me, but I noticed how amazing my nails are when I take Premama Wellness Prenatals. My hair has always been super thick and long so I don’t notice a difference there, but my nails definitely grow stronger. They’re pricey but worth it. I went on them because we were trying for a baby and was pleasantly surprised by my nails.

laceyjoxo :  For some reason, biotin makes me break out so  I can’t take it. I have tried all kinds of dosages and I still break out. However I saw some great improvements with my nails when I started eating better food. Lots of veggies and more fish (omega 3s & good fats) worked wonders for me.

I didn’t see much improvement with biotin but here’s what did/does work for me.

I have super thin, very fragile nails (and hair) that get damaged and break very easily.  Keeping them moisturized and increased blood flow through nightly massages with bag balm (lanolin) and then throughout the day with cuticle oil.  Keeping them protected with either nail polish (cheap and can repair any chips or damage at home which is great because chips become breaks for me) or gel polish (very strong, lasts a long time).  Having a file on me at all times so that I can fix snags or chips immediately. If I wait until I go home that snag or chip will have broken off down to the quick and I will have to start over.

Biotin made me break out really bad. I won’t go near it. My nails and hair got stronger and grew super fast when I went keto/cut out sugar.

Not biotin BUT I take collagen (Bowmar Nutrition brand, not affiliated with them, just love the product) and I LOVE it. So for those who said biotin breaks them out, maybe consider collagen?

My nails grew uber fast with it same for my hair. However, the thing I loved most was that it helped with acne. I’ve never had super bad acne, just your normal whiteheads, oily pimples, zits during PMS, etc and I’ve been out of my collagen and my acne is terrible, meh. I need to buy it again because I loved how clear my face/chest was when I was regularly taking it.
