We just finished our 3rd Birth Class. Someone posted about a month ago if anyone found them helpful. We took the classes the hospital offered. This included a tour which was great for my husband to know where to bring me. They also showed us what our room offered. So things like heating pads, birthing balls, CD players are not included. Good to know if you are planning to try to use some of these things to help relax you during labor. We also did relaxation techniques. I learned that I like my husband rubbing my back but not pressing or kneading on my back. I also relaxed better and didn’t feel discomfort when I was asked to picture holding the baby and kissing the baby. We also did a practice birth plan worksheet. It gave my husband and I a chance to talk about what we do or don’t want.
They also discussed the different pain meds, different procedures and the benefits and risks to all of these. I’ve read the baby books so I was familiar with most of this stuff but my husband wasn’t. I think it helped him to know what to expect and what I would want in case I couldn’t make those decisions.
Another thing I learned was that if you have a c-section it might be a few hours before you the mom get to hold the baby and nurse. Of course this could be different for everyone but something to think about and be prepared for.
Anyway, I could go on and on. But wanted to share that I found the classes helpful.
Anyone else find them helpful?
