My husband and I would like to TTC in about a year. I am really trying to lose as much weight as possible in the next year before we start trying. Do you think it’s easier to lose weight if you are off birth control? I have been taking birth control pills for the last 8 years and would really like to get off of them now if it would help in my weight loss journey. Does anyone have any tips?

No, some say you gain weight when you stop birth control… everyone’s body is different.

@Winter11: I don’t know how it will affect your weight loss.. because everyone has different reactions… but I’m sure coming off the pill sooner rather than later will help you get your cycles figured out and make it easier to concieve when you want to.

@Winter11: Depending on which pill you are on, most cases weining off the pill increases you weight along with other factors such as acne and mood swings. But as misty bear stated everyone is different

@Winter11: The docs I work with say birth control doesn’t make you gain weight or change your metabolism, but it can make you hungrier. So it per se doesn’t affect your weight loss =)

I think the sooner you get off BC, the easier it is for your body to adjust.

Myself personally have gained weight since I went of BCP at the end of May. June I worked out just as much and ate the same diet but I noticed a few pounds. I won’t even mention this month, between a cold and then the flu it has been just horrible.
Everyone is different though and you may want to have some time for your body to adjust and your cycles to get normal before ttc.

Many people gain weight on birth control pills, and if you work with a trainer it can be hard to lean out if you are on hbc.
I wonder if many people getting off hbc are ttc, which can be kind of stressful. Cortisol and stress can both contribute to weight gain.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I guess it probably couldn’t hurt to go off of it. I’m already counting calories and working out so as long as I continue to do that I shouldn’t have to worry a whole lot about gaining weight.
