I was on ortho try cyclen lo for about 2 years, the only side effects I ever had were good ones! It cleared up my acne, and resuced my cramps! Prior to being on the pill, I was on the depo provera shot for 3 years, that increases your appetite and will make you gain weight if you dont watch what you eat. Ortho is the best birth control in my opinion. I would definitely talk to your gyno if you have any concerns about side effects though.

Update,pack one down!
Ok so far when this these are my side affects…when going through the pills the first day that I would start a new color I would get a horrible migraine, and the day I started the pelcibo I felt very emotional and started crying for no reason at about 10:00 at night.. though I have been really stressed so It might be the fact I was sick tired and burning the candel at both ends.. Oh and I have had my period twice this month. But not bad so far . The period thing I know is normal and like I said theI will have to see about the crying thing may have not been the pill.

@Angela83 — Thanks for the concern. I’m not sexually active though, so no chance of pregnancy. These couple months before the wedding are a trial to make sure I’m on the right BC before I get married (and actually want it to work then!)
Update for my experience– other than those first two bad nights, I haven’t had any issues with Ortho Tricyclen Lo. I’m on the first week of my second cycle of it. 🙂

I think the only side effect I’ve ever noticed was decreased libido and if I didn’t take it at the right time some spotting. But I’ve been on it for a year now and I really like it. I used to be on the patch but it gets stuck to everything you wear and is just not attractive to have a fuzzy sticker on your butt lol.

For the first 3 years or so that I was on ortho tricyclen lo, I had no negative side effects – it did give me shorter, lighter periods and less cramping than when I wasn’t on birth control pills.
Then, about a year ago – I was super emotional and super sensitive, crying all the time; I switched birth control pills & almost instantly was back to my normal self. It just seemed like the different hormones for each week were the problem (I switched to Levora (I think thats how its spelled) and havent had any problems since.
Its kinda weird that OTL was great for a few years and then started causing problems, but I guess just try to keep track of any side effects you have – there are always other options if OTL doesnt work out for you – ask your dr.

Ortho lo is the first and only bc pill I’ve taken.
Positive side effects: Significant decrease in my cramps (used to be horrible), very regular period, slight increase in breast size, and no babies.
Negative side effects: For the first week, I experienced some nausea for a couple of hours after taking it, as well as some breast soreness (both of those went away after that first week or two.) Something that started setting in later, that I didn’t notice at first, was a decrease in libido. I’m considering switching because of this, but otherwise I’ve been really happy with it so I’m sort of hesitant.

im on regular ortho now, and i was on ortho lo.
about two or three months after i started ortho lo i definitely noticed i had started gaining weight. and even after i switched pills, the weight stayed on. My boobs grew two cup sizes as well!
I switched to regular ortho because i was spotting in between cycles when i was on the lo. i guess there was not enough hormones or whatever in the lo in order to regulate my period.
i think that gaining weight is inevitable for a lot of people though.

i only felt nauseous in the mornings for about a month. then i was fine. i did notice i was more sensitive during arguments while i was on it but i dont honestly know if it was due to ortho tri-cyclen lo or because i was dating a jerk at the time.

I am so glad to have read this. I got off my BC because I felt like it was making me crazy….and apparently it made others have crazy mood swings too!
