- Wedding: October 2013
A little background. In October, I went in for a routine physical. My blood tests showed that I had “slightly elevated” bilirubin levels. I didn’t even know what that was at the time, but the nurses and my own research told me that it could have something to do with my liver. They did a second blood test and found that it was nothing to worry about, but they said they wanted me to come back in six months (which would be next month) for more tests to see if anything has changed.
I’m getting married in October of this year, and I’m hoping to get a birth control prescription (most likely some form of the pill) soon so that my body can adjust to it. We’ve used condoms in the past, but I’ve never been on hormonal birth control.
While researching birth control, I’ve read that liver problems could be a risk factor while taking birth control. While researching bilirubin levels, I’ve read that some types of birth control could cause elevated levels. Does anyone know whether this means that taking hormonal birth control might not be a good idea for me?
I’m going to call my doctor and hopefully get an answer or some guidance on this, but I figured I’d post here in the meantime.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any insight.
