@leafgum:  You can definitely take it tonight, if your period started tonight (I’m assuming this is your first pack). I personally prefer starting then rather than Sunday, because that way I get my period in the middle of the week (I’d rather not have to deal with it on the weekends.)

ETA: I cannot remember (the booklet it came with should tell you) if you only have to wait 7 days before going without backup if you start the Sunday after, or regardless of when you start. To be safe, I would use backup i.e. condoms for the first week just to be safe)

You should be fine waiting until Sunday. Just read the pack insert to be sure or call a nurses hotline. I started mine on a Sunday when I first started on BCP and always get my periods Tues- Fri. This was definitely the best option for me. Regardless, because you’re just starting, use a back up method for at least a week if not longer.

So basically, no, there’s no difference, just preference. After a week taking the active pills, you should be good to go lol

@honey_love:  Lucky! My last active pill will be Friday night, and I won’t get it until Monday night, even later into Tuesday sometimes!!

Unless something has changed in the past 2 years, You start the Sunday after your period. The inactive pills are for the week of your period.

i think they only do that ‘sunday after’ stuff so that you remember to take it because sunday is the beginning of the week and all that.

@LRCWedding:  ditto

You should wait until after your period is over

Read your instructions, because mine say I have two options: Day period starts OR sunday after. My doctor gave me the choice.

@love108:  Talk to your DR about switching the start day. (I take my last active pill on a Sat and start a new pack the following week… Sun)

It’s usually easy to switch your start days, but it does mean using backup protection until again for a while.

@honey_love:  I think she is starting BCP for the first time, so I don’t think she’s “switching” the start date.

@love108:  No, but regardless, it generally doesn’t matter depending on the brand and even once you’ve chosen a start date, you’re not committed to that.

I take my pill starting on sundays, and don’t get my period till tuesday night of my placebo week, so waiting doesn’t mean that you’ll have to deal with your period on a weekend. It’s all up to how your body reacts. I like starting on a sunday because all the pill packs come preprinted with sunday as the start day, and it’s annoying to have to change the preprints to keep track.
