Beautiful! What a great birthday surprise!

I see what you mean about the “hairs”… I will say that if you want to nix the scallops, you’ll lose the hairs, because that’s actually part of the way the lace is made.

Also, I think that a smooth edged sweetheart neckline would be an easy and pretty alteration…. I think the dress is pretty as-is, but I think that a smooth line will be more flattering and will seem less “busy”… I just feel like the scallop detail really isn’t that defined, so it really won’t hurt to lose it.

Also, if you have to take the dress in at the front seams at all, it will make the scallops all wonky anyway.

As for the bottom “hairs”…. you could really go either way, but I don’t know if they can just cut them off… it’s part of the way the lace is made, so they may have to do a hem of some kind to keep it from fraying…. not 100% sure, but you should consult a seamstress before you decide.

I completely agree with PP and your OP – I think the top would look beautiful with a simple sweetheart neckline. As for the “hairs,” you’ll likely lose them with neckline alterations, but I wouldn’t worry about the skirt. IMO, they are much more noticable along your neckline than the train anyway – but if it were a detail that bugged you, definitely snip them. If you don’t mind them, let ’em hang free! Smile

Happy Birthday to you 🙂

I actually love the neckline, and think once it’s properly fitted to you it would be much more flattering!

Happy Birthday! Mine’s tomorrow. Geminis rock! I love the little “hairs” or fringe on the dress. It’s a nice touch of detail to me. I absolutely adore your gown!

This was my dream dress, but when I tried it on, thought it was beautiful, but wasn’t “me.”  I’m so glad someone else loves it and looks *that* good in it.  And you really do look great.  There’s no such thing as buying too early, I still have that feeling since I bought mine, but its still the only dress I could envision wearing once its on.  Have faith!

And the “hairs” on the lace aren’t clearly visible unless you’re within a foot of the dress.  I wouldn’t worry about it.
