- Wedding: August 2013 - An amazing non-profit retreat
On Weds August 24 (my 26th birthday) I came home, exhausted and ready to relax with the SO. I had worked two jobs that day after little sleep the night before. He seemed surprised when I got home and explained that he had picked up dinner for me, but hadn’t cooked it yet. At that point I think I demanded cake for dinner lol. He told me to go outside and relax, and he’d bring it to me. He brought out a chocolate cake with sparklers (yay!) and while I was enjoying the sparklers, he had to run inside to turn the smoke alarm off 😛
So we’re outside enjoying our cake and he goes back inside all of a sudden. He comes back and creeps up behind me and wraps me in his arms with his head on my shoulder. He hands me a card that seemed like it could have been written by him. It made me cry. As I’m sniffling and awwing over the card, he handed me a wrapped ring box, and said “this is also for you.” I don’t even remember unwrapping the ring box, but I do remember me saying “aren’t you supposed to get down on one knee?” and him replying “I am right where I am supposed to be.” Melt.
So I open the box and of course I’m crying now, and he’s sniffling and we’re hugging and kissing and carrying on, and it was just so wonderful. At one point he did get down on one knee and asked me, and I was so stunned by the whole thing still that I didn’t hear him. “Well, will you?” “Will I what?” hahaha. He’s like, you have to say yes! “Oh I’m sorry.” “Yes! Of course!” Then I told him to stand up so I could hug him properly and we basically just stood there forever until we went to sit down and he put the ring on my finger to seal the deal. I love that it happened at our home, in our yard, by sunset. It didn’t even matter to either of us taht NOTHING went according to his plans.
