Have you considered finding a mapmaker on Etsy? Or having an artistic friend draw one freehand?

Check out Mrs. Hibiscus’s post “DIY Invitation Map.” I thought it would be difficult, but I did it yesterday and it was super easy. I LOVE the results I got too!

I used Etsy seller, “lilacsandlace”   She was just getting started and was only going to charge me $3 (she designed it and I printed them).  I went back and forth a couple of times with her until they were exactly like I wanted AND she had the design finished the next day, so I paid her $10.  She was fabulous to work with!

I’ve drawn a fee for friends and I sold one.  If you need help message me.

I tried to follow some of the tutorials on Weddingbee, but couldn’t make them work for me.  In the end I printed a map from Google Maps and then traced it with vellum.  Then I scanned that and cleaned it up a little bit.

I ended up printing a map of the small city where the ceremony is in Green the highlighted the route in white, using my Gocco.  I’m really proud of how they turned out.  I’m at work or I’d post a picture.

Try printing out a google map then hand tracing the roads you need on tracing paper.  You can then scan it back into your computer and add the fonts/photos and whatever else you want to it.  Here’s ours that my Darling Husband did just that way:

I used Google maps. Print screen and drop it into an editing program. Remove the details you don’t need, bold over the routes that are important. Add text and GIFS for points of interest (hotels, venue etc). resize, print and you are good to go.

This is my project for the weekend as well. If I find some good, helpful sites (in addition to those previously listed here), I’ll pass them along!
