- Wedding: October 2011
So my wedding colors are black and neons. I knew I wanted an obnoxiously bright wedding, but I wanted to do it in a classy way and without it looking like an 80s dance party.
My girls are wearing mismatched black dresses. My only requirements are that the fabric is primarily satin, solid black, and floor length. So far the dresses they’re picking are gorgeous! To incorporate the neon theme, each will hold a different colored bouquet, like this: The guys will be wearing a black shawl lapel tuxedo with a matching pocket square to the girl they’re walking down the aisle with. The girl with the hot pink bouquet walks with the guy with the hot pink pocket square, etc.
I really struggled with the cake table (we’re actually doing cupcakes) and the decor for the banquet hall. I couldn’t figure out how exactly to incorporate the neon theme without it getting tacky. I was thinking black linens and chair covers and a different colored chair cover sash for each table, but that looked kind of rainbow-weddingish. And at first, I was going to have our baker frost a mixture of neon colors for the cupcakes, but instead I decided to just do one color (green…that’s me and my fiance’s color, I’ll have the green bouquet and he’ll have the green pocket square) with a bouquet of multi-colored flowers on the table.
For the banquet hall, I’m actually growing my own wheat grass centerpieces. I found black and white whirly pops online like a year ago and LOVED them, so this is what I came up with:
I think at least for now, it’s not too terribly 80s or tacky, “classy neons” I like to call it, but it’s still light-hearted and fun.
