So long story short, hubs and I are moving into a house in a few weeks that we had build. Due to a miscommunication (in other words a terrible terrible salesman) our builder is putting in black appliances, when I really wanted stainless steel. My question is this: would it look ridiculous to buy a stainless steel fridge and pair it with the black oven/stove range? They will be pretty close together in the kitchen (along the same wall with a bit of counter in between)
What do you think?

I’m pretty anal about things matching, so I vote for matching appliances.

I don’t think it will look that weird. Our stainless front appliances have black on the sides (which you see a lot of the fridge because it’s in a small cubby area).

I think it will be fine!
In fact, we’re doing the same. We bought our home and the prior owners had white appliances (yuck!) worst part is that the stove and dish washer are only 2 yrs old and high end! why why why did they do that!
Our Refridgerator is hideous, old and small. so we’re getting rid of it–and getting the stainless. Im a little concerend about how its going to look…but the fridge we have now is just ugly.

@pghbride2013: I can relate. I loathe our white appliances 🙁

Black goes with everything. I think it would be okay.

@MrsNerdy: I’m not 100% sure but I think my Fiance has a stainless refrigerator and a black stove/oven and it has never bothered me. If it is the case I’ll take a pic and post it for you.
But I was also thinking that your refrigerator will probably be black where the ice dispenser so I don’t think it will look bad at all!

Stainless steel will look fine! I wouldn’t worry about it!

Stainless steel usually has black all over it anyway, it’ll look fine!

It’ll look great either way. My stainless cuisinart coffe maker has black trim, and is still very sharp. Essentially, we’re talking about black and grey together; always a viable combo.

It will look alright…BUT if it bothers you, see if the manufacturer has ss panels that you can pop on top of or in place of the black and presto: stainless steel. Many new appliances have this option, and really there is probably no difference between the black appliances you got and the SS you would have gotten if the salesman had his shit together, except that there are black panels instead of ss.
This also goes for anyone reading who may have badly scratched ss and doesn’t want to buy a whole new appliance – see if the panels are interchangeable!

@MrsNerdy: When we bought our house we bought a new stainless steel fride and stove but the dishwasher in the home is black. It doesnt look too bad cause the stove has black on it but I think I want to get a stainless dishwasher to match the others eventually cause I’m a very matchy person. I think blck matches everything if it was white it would be a different story

That’s actualy what we have. We bought our 4 year old house with the appliances, and they are a SS fridge and microwave, black stove and dishwasher. The SS appliances have black handles or trim or something so everything kind of blends and I actually didn’t even notice until we went back for our home inspection. Just don’t get an ultra-modern looking fridge and it will be fine!

Lots of stainless appliances have black trim, so they’ll look totally fine together. I currently have the trifecta of kitchen appliance finishes – black fridge, white stove, stainless dishwasher. The stove sticks out like a sore thumb, but the other two go together nicely.

+1. When we moved into our house, we took out the old appliances and replaced them all with stainless steel.
