I’m confused… if you asked them to buy any floor length black dress they want, why is it necessarily $200?

I’m confused too… if you don’t mind them having different dresses then thats fine, just make sure they’re all the same material.. But if you want them to have the same dress, just tell them and, honestly, its just too bad if they are mad about matching as long as its a pretty dress at a decent price

I think it will be fine but make sure you are clear in what you will and won’t accept. A friend of mine did this and it turned out pretty well. One girl wore a knit jersey dress, and IMO looked very out of place- like she just threw something on from her closet, and she was the Maid/Matron of Honor. I was shocked that she wore such a casual dress. The other Bridesmaid or Best Man were totally cute and appropriate and looked great!

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding where we all got to pick out our own black dresses – it was great and we were all thrilled!  Since black is black, there were no issues with having different shades of black.  Each girl had their own personality that shined through with the dress.  The bride provided us with matching costume jewelry (necklace and earrings), so there was still continuity between all of our looks.
