To be honest, I don’t love black bridesmaid dresses. I was in a wedding last year where we wore black and it was hard to distinguish the bridesmaids from alot of the female guests who also wore black dresses.

I do think that black is a little too formal for an afternoon wedding in May. Have you considered charcoal or a lighter shade of grey? I think that could be really pretty…

Are you having any other colors?  I agree with CaitMarae, while I love black, I think for early wedding it may be too much.  If you really want the black, make sure you do some type of sash so they will stand apart.

@UpstateCait: i’m sure it’s just a random pic, but any idea where the dresses are from?

I think many people are doing black now.  Like CaitMarae, I too dislike BMs in black. I love color!

Since so many people do black now, i think you can do it at anytime of day.  Just choose a less formal style.

I love black dresses, I think they’re classy and formal, and probably the only dress a bridemaid will *actually* wear again.  My maid of honour doesn’t like them but it’s moot because I’m not doing black at the wedding.  I do usually live in black though, so I could be biased.  It’s not very May, either, but I also don’t give a shit about the “appropriate” seasonal colour schemes, so I say if you want them – get them!  I’m sure you can find cute, short ones somewhere that will be perfect.

I think that black is sooooooo overdone now! I was in a wedding 2 years ago when doing the black and white thing was considered unique! I wouldnt do it now it is overplayed…. Do something colourful!

I am unconventional so i think if you want black in the spring then go for it. I love black bridesmaid dresses bc i think they can be easily worn again. I saw these super cute black and white short bridesmaid dresses at Davids Bridal which would be cute with bright colored shoes or jewlery. If i find them i will upload a pic

My wedding is in May and I am doing black bridesmaid dresses.  I think it is classic.  Plus, the bm’s will love you for it!  Black is slimming!  I added a pop of color with shoes & a sash…plus with the flowers!  It will be gorgeous! =)

I think black is always appropriate for bridesmaids, and is the only way to make it likely they’ll wear the dress again. I let my one Maid/Matron of Honor wear whatever she wanted, and she chose to wear a black dress with colorful shoes.
