Mine are going to be brown but I have seen some weddings of people I know who had black dresses and they looked fabulous.  You should be able to find a dress locally and find a similar store that carriers that brand/dress so they can all get the same dress.

@capitalbee:  as soon as I can figure out how to edit out people’s faces, I will post a picture! My sister (married in Sept. 2011), had us all in floor length black bridesmaid dresses. Her two MOHs were in one style and the two BMs were in the other!

I don’t have any pics cause we haven’t done it yet, but that’s what I’m planning on doing for my BMs too!

I’m having black bridesmaid dresses and picked a style that would be flattering on all my girls since they all wouldn’t be able to try on the dress in person. I originally thought I’d let them all pick their own style as long as it was black or put my Maid/Matron of Honor in a different style, but am so glad they’ll all be wearing the same dress.

This is exactly what my friend did last March. I was the Maid/Matron of Honor and a friend was the Bridesmaid or Best Man… We both pulled dresses out of our closets and bam, bridal party attire!

I loved it because her wedding was expensive to begin with, so this meant I wasn’t spending anything on attire aside from alterations. And I got to revive my favorite old Tadashi dress.

It looked like this, except black, no sleeves, and no belt.

One of my friends did this for her wedding, and I think it was nice.

I think it sounds like a good idea. Black is awesome because to me it seems logical that the bridesmaids would be able to wear it again. My bridesmaids wore navy, but I did have my mom and my husband’s mom wear black. Here’s a picture of my mom. The dress was from Bloomingdale’s, on sale.

If you are concerned about them not getting to try them on, why not look at chain stores (Alfred Angelo, Davids Bridal) and choose from their selections? (I’m very fond of matching bridesmaids, so that may be my bias talking).. Just remember, blacks will be kinda difficult to match.. Oddly, black is a hard color get to be the same throughout all the looks… FH is having this trouble now since him and his guys are all wearing different suits… His is MUCH darker than the rest.. But I also have a color sensitive eye (I was a color matcher in printing for a little while)…

@capitalbee:  did it! It’s not the best job, but it works.

(the guys are in this too and sitting at the bottom of our dresses–sorry! It was the best picture to capture the details in the dress).

Note–the 2 girls on the end (bridesmaids) added strapes to their dress. Originally we all had strapless dresses.  Their dresses are by Bill Levkoff. Ours (the 2 MOHs beside the bride) are Alexia (#2946)

@capitalbee:  I think as long as you have them all pick out a similar length (short or long) or ask them to just get a black dress in a specifc material like chiffon, it will be no problem. I always find that when the material, length and style are all different, it looks like a mess.
