They are becoming more trendy lately. I’m a gemologist.

@Dsquared: My friend is also very interested in black diamonds. What is the difference between a black diamond and a black sapphire? (besides the molecular structure). Would they wear differently in an engagement ring? Which is least expensive? Sorry for all of the questions, but I thought I’d jump on your knowledge.

@Everdeen: Black diamonds are MUCH MUCH harder than sapphires. Visually there isn’t going to be much difference they will both be opaque, but the sapphire will be much cheaper.

I think they’re really cool and I’ve seen a couple of really beautiful erings on here, but I personally wouldn’t want one (I’m just really traditional about this). My only problem with them really is that they don’t exactly look like the typical ering, so you’d probably be asked about it a lot. If you don’t mind that go for it:) I think they’re awesome for a few different reasons if you’re not as traditional as I am though.

1. They’re hard! Which is perfect for something you’ll wear everyday.

2. Black goes with everything!

3. They’re cheaper than white diamonds.

AND Black diamonds with halos look amazing. The diamonds really pop. How awesome is this ring?! And for under $1500

@earrings: Do you happen to have any pictures of it? I’d love to see it. 🙂

@Dsquared: Thanks for the info! So diamond would wear better but sapphire would be less expensive. Hmmm

They are really trendy, probably because Carrie Bradshaw got one in SATC 2.

They are cool though! Just not sure I’d want one *forever* you know?

My wedding band has black diamonds and I love it!  I get a lot of compliments on it because it is super sparkley and not very common….

One of my good friends has a black diamond center stone w/ ruby side stones.  It is an amazing ring, and suites her personality perfectly.  I love anything out of the ordinary in e-rings 🙂

I love them! They were definitely a contender for me when I was contemplating e-rings. I ended up going with a Ruby though for my birth stone.

So pretty!!!!  I am digging the black diamonds….  Are they rarer than normal diamonds?  I haven’t seen them in stores…
