“well how about ‘just because your partner is a poc doesnt magically absolve you of being racist.’? Seems pretty cut and dried that you’re trying to make the point that white = privileged = racist.”
‘s statement just means that you can have a partner who is a POC and still be racist. Privilege doesn’t even enter into that point. Not sure how you don’t see that.
Secondly, it’s a little ridiculous to suggest that you (or anyone else) isn’t racist merely by dint of your child choosing a POC as a partner. This is laughably akin to the sentiment, “Well, I have a black friend, so I’m not racist.”
Furthermore, it’s absolutely possible to not be racist while still having a racist mother–your son choosing a POC partner says something about HIM, not about YOU.

Trump is a racist but I don’t see how Biden who opposed disegragation busing, created bills to imprison African Americans, and brought back slavery in Libya during the Obma administration, will solve racism in the States. Biden only remembers African Americans once in 4 years and moves on with his agenda. Frankly, the fact that a racist was considered “the most electible candidate” is very telling of the two political parties in the US.

I don’t think anyone really likes Biden. But a lot of people hate Trump. 🙋
Biden will have to respond to his voters. And right now, finally, his voters want change and will likely hold him to the fire. Whereas Trump has incentive to be racist openly, covertly because that is what pleases his supporters. Will Biden “solve racism in the States”? Absolutely not. Not one person can or will. And if one person could, it wouldn’t be Biden.
You’re right – his history, as well as his very reccent words (i.e., “you ain’t black” comments) show that has been racist and ignorant. I am praying that Biden selects a Black woman as his VP because Black representation and Black voices are critical to progress. Personally, I’d like to see him select Stacey Abrams.

There’s no equivalency between Trump and Biden, let’s be very clear on that. We have an election coming up and we cannot afford to be confused about this issue. Biden was wrong about bussing. He tried to take a politically expedient stance back in the day, while still trying to preserve his anti segregationist stance. There were some moral gymnastics involved, and he was rightly attacked for it, by people who are now wholeheartedly endorsing him. This is the real world for you, there are no perfect candidates with perfect records.
But re Libya and the crime bills: Those were unintended consequences, and had widespread political support at the time, the latter even by the Congressional Black Caucus. It’s disingenuous to single out Biden as being racist because of that.

I disagree with some of your comments but I think you would agree with me that this thread gives us another opportunity to listen to what POC have to say rather than telling them who to vote for.

Poor America, this is what has come to pass for progressive thought .

I never told anyone who to vote for, so yeah I guess we agree on that point…
So what do you disagree with? Are you a Trump supporter?
