Just curious, what are your thoughts on the events in NYC when a Range Rover was surrounded, chased, and ultimately vandalized by a group of motorcyclists? I was completely shocked when I saw this video–I don’t know what I would have done if I had been in that car and accidentally hit someone.

I watched this without sound but I am so confused. Why were the bikers swarming the Range in the first place?

@daybyday: stupidity. that’s the reason.

That was such a stupid video. Ugh. The range rover should have called 911 immediately, and gotten out to help. I think that everyone was in the wrong here. Those guys on motorcycles were being entirely unsafe riding so close to a range rover. They shouldn’t have terrorized the SUV like a gang either. Get the plates, you can have someone follow, but don’t damage the car like a psychopath or a troubled child.
ETA: Just read an article about it. I think the SUV needed to be carefully maneuvering out, because those guys were just dicks. They needed to call 911 while running. That is terrifying and screw those motorcyclists.

@MrsLongcoatPeacoat: Hmmm for some reason I can’t see the video. It says it is private.
Found the video elsewhere. Mob mentality is terrifying. I don’t think anyone can blame him for trying to get away to safety considering he was completely surrounded.

I think the thing that bothers me the most is that the RR driver had his 5-month old child in the car. I may be biased, but I doubt he was out trying to bowl cover the motorcycles. From what I can tell, it started as a fender bender and the bikers swarmed.
@MrsTVLover: thank you for posting the link!

I read the article on the daily news and it seems the bikers attacked the driver after he hit one of the bikers and drove off hitting 3 more. I think both parties were in the wrong here.

The bikers swarmed the Range Rover and one asshole motorcyclists swerved and stopped short right in front of the Range Rover. The driver did not have time to react and hit the motorcyclist. This was started by the motorcycles. Then then started bashing in windows. Um, hell yeah I would try to get out of there asap.

Darling Husband has a motorcycle and he is VERY safe on it. Unsafe motorcylists scare the shit out of me–I just about had a panic attack this morning on the highway because I was in the middle lane, and a motorcycle decided to squeeze between me and the guy in the left lane as I was getting up next to the guy in the left lane.

The only thing I don’t know is if the Range Rover was being an ass before the video started – maybe he was cutting them off or being obnoxious. However, if a swarm of motorcyclists gathered around my car to the point that I had to completely stop my car and THEN they get off their bikes in the middle of the road and walk towards me…I would be getting out of there as fast as I could also. That is terrifying.

I hate motorcyclists who give us safe riders a bad name. I have seen my fair share of d*uchebags on two wheels when I ride my motorbike and while I drive my car. But I have also seen d*uchebags on 4 wheels who’ve purposely come dangerously close to me or not see me at all [that phone text must be really important]. If a car nudged the back of my bike or a friend’s bike, you can bet I’d be super pissed. Yet, if I were the driver of the SUV and felt my family’s life was threatened, I would also try to get the hell outta there. From the video, I can’t tell if the SUV driver suddenly decided to run them over without trying to call for help or find a way to diffuse the situation in the first place. And it was stupid for the bikers to go after him. Mob mentality is freaking scary… I’m amazed no one died.
I can understand both sides in this video, especially if the story is correct, but neither did the right thing.

Wow, that’s nuts. I dont feel sorry for the bikers at all. It looks pretty obvious that they were out looking for trouble and just being asses. He stopped when he tapped on who cut HIM off and then they pounced. With my family in the car, I would have sped off too. I would be just fine if even more of those assholes were hit on his way out.

That video made me so sick. Mob mentality is terrifying. I was literally shuddering and nauseous after watching the video because the SUV driver was then pulled out of his car, beaten, and attacked with a knife while his family was helpless in the car. Unbelievable. So fucking disgusting.

@sarahuccs: There’s another video out on youtube that shows it pretty much from the start which is where the motorcyclists catch up with the Range Rover and start to pass/surround it. A driver in blue jeans, gets in front of him, turns to look at the front of the Rover, looks forward and then brake checks. The motorcyclist was already too close to the SUV. The SUV couldn’t brake in time and hit the tire of the motorcycle. They all stop and the motorcyclists start surrounding the SUV. He takes off and then the stupidity goes from there. Should the driver have left? I don’t know. I can’t fault him because I would have felt threatened by all the bikers as well.
The only thing I do know is the SUV driver and passenger should have been on the phone with the police immediately.
