I finally found a dress i LOVE (silk without any embellishments on it- the way the fabric is pleated is plenty embellishment) and now can’t decide if I want to add a black sash.
pro #1: I think it’s just striking. And it’s all over Vera Wang’s spring collection…and I love Vera.
pro #2: it’ll tie in beautifully with my bridesmaids’ black dresses…
con #1: it “breaks up” the line of the dress…apparently. And my waist isn’t super tiny, but my dress makes it look tiny…until the sash comes on.
con#2: will it feel too trendy in 20 years? Does that matter? I just don’t want to regret it.

Don’t use the sash, or use it to have a just a few pictures taken. When you look back at the photos, or view them with others, you want to hear “Wow you look amazing!” (which you’ll hear with that tiny waist, yeah!) and not “What a lovely sash!” Could you embellish with a flower? Does it have corseting so that you could replace the ribbon or cord there with a black one? Do what you think makes you look your best, not what feels the trendiest! 😀

Mermaid dresses, poofy sleeves, sashes — they’re all trends. We’ll all be dated in photos. That’s fashion. So don’t motivate yourself with that.
But if you think the dress is less flattering with the sash, then that’s a good reason to forego it.
I am all for black sashes in general. I’m doing it and I know how controversial it is 🙂 But you want to look and feel good in the end.
