What do you ladies think of a Black Wedding Dress? I never thought about wearing black until my fiance brought it up. And here is why I am okay with it, I have been married before, I wore the traditional white dress and all that, and I divorced that sorry excuse of a man, Now I am truly with my best friend, my soul mate, we don’t call each other our “other halfs” because we feel so close that we are one. We think the same thoughts and can know what the other is thinking just by a look in the eye. Our relationship is so different and unique than anything I’ve ever imagined. We both want our wedding to be different and unlike anything anyone has ever seen. So, black wedding dress? What would you think if you went to a wedding and the bride was wearing black? We arent gothic and we’re not going for a halloween theme even though our wedding is in October. Our colors are damask black & white with another color that will make it pop, something like teal or red, maybe purple.

I think that if YOU love the idea of a black wedding dress, then go for it! But remember it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, and people will most likely talk about it…. then again those things apply to any dress you get.

I think if you choose somethign very “bridal” it could be bautiful. You have to be careful not too look to “award show host”
Also I would have at least some white mixed in…

@ElizabethSetzer: I think a black wedding dress is elegant, especially if it follows the bridal lines. I LOVE these:

I wanted to do this. I thought I would wear black and the entire wedding party would wear white. I was pushing to get this done and then within the same week I thought I found a dress I read an article where Sara Jessica Parker, who also wore a black wedding dress, said that she regreted it. Ugh. I thought it was a sign and wore ivory. I dont’ regret it though 🙂 This is the one I fell in love with

I had a black wedding dress picked out and everything, and then i tried on my dress and fell in love. My mother & mil were also not fond of a black wedding dress, which swayed my opinion, which I’m not extremely happy about.
I would do this though.

It’s an interesting thought! I don’t see a problem with it!

I loooooooooooove the idea of wearing a black wedding dress, but that’s probably because I wear black pretty much every day. This is my one opportunity to wear a white dress and I’m going for it.
That being said, my dream was just like @mwitter80 – I wanted to be dark with my maids in lighter colors. Like this, but maybe not these colors:
I dont’ know if I’d be able to go through with it when the time comes though. I know white dresses aren’t super traditional (brides used to wear all kinds of colors) but I bet I’d regret it if I didn’t wear white. Plus my fiance would kill me. :/

I forgot to mention that I think the pop of purple with black would look beautiful
This one by Vera is amazing. Not sure if you’re considering a veil, but I also like the way the one in the bottom photo contrasts with her blonde hair:

If it’s something you love and know you won’t regret it later, go for it. Otherwise, maybe not.
Me, my gown is on my blog. The bodice is a pale pink/peach (matches my skin tone almost perfectly) with black embroidery and clear/siata; name=”Submit”

Thank you all for the responses, I guess I’m mostly worried that I’ll regret it later, almost every formal event i go to i wear a black dress. So maybe I should stick with white? I really like the idea of black and white though! I do loooove black, so a good mix could be wonderful.

there are A LOT of black and white gowns out there!!!!
There are several black and white gowns that I tried on on that page. And there were a handful of others.
Also, I’ve seen TONS of black and white gowns online. You can even go to ebay and search for black wedding gowns and get gowns similar to the ones I tried on.
Google images is another awesome place to get ideas from.
Hope this helps!!!!
