so the past couple months, i’ve been on a search for the perfect ~city hall wedding dress~. you can read more about that here. i was browsing some dresses for everyday wear when i came across THIS dress and i sort of fell in love. only problem? IT’S BLACK! but somehow, imagining wearing a black dress on my wedding day doesn’t really irk me the way i thought it would.
it’s everything i really want in a wedding dress…i love that it’s pretty simple and looks very easy to wear…it’s long but doesn’t seem too dramatic for a city hall ceremony and dinner reception with close friends and family. ahhh…just the color!
so bees, are you into black dresses for wedding dresses? would you wear one? have you worn one? know anyone that has worn one?
here are some more photos of black wedding dresses!

While in theory the black dress isnt bad, I dont find that particular one to be that spectacular for a wedding.

@chasesgirl: I agree. It’s too simple and looks like any old dress.

@chasesgirl: my FI and i are having a ‘wedding’ that wouldn’t almost count as a ‘wedding’. we’re getting married at city hall and then having dinner with very close friends and family afterwards. i’m not looking for a very ‘wedding-dressy’ dress.

I think you could wear that particular dress anywhere, for any occassion. I don’t mind the idea of a black dress and though I personaly wouldn’t wear one, you gotta do what works for you! A sparkly belt might help jazz it up a bit 🙂

I like it! The flowy overlay is just classy enough for a courthouse wedding!

@AlwaysSunny: thank you! girl, you get me 😉

I agree with pp, it’s not the color as much the dress itself. Very plain. I know it’s not a big wedding, but it’s still a special occasion. I love some of the ones on your other thread though.

Black dresses CAN work IF you get one that is special enough–however, I don’t think that dress is it. I think you may end up looking back and regretting not getting to wear something more bridal.
The key to an untraditional wedding dress is to pick the RIGHT dress, one that feels special, bridal and romantic…ESPECIALLY if you do end up wearing black. You want to look happy and like a bride on your wedding day–not like you’re going to a funeral or a Halloween party. Just saying.
Check out Enzoani’s Oriel. It’s STUNNING.

I wore a black dress for a simple civil ceremony at a restaurant. I loved it and I have worn it again! Go for it!

@missebelle: I think that PP’s are saying is that even if you aren’t wanting a “weddingy” dress, you should still wear a dress that looks special, regardless of color.
I fully support a black dress, but that particular dress looks like a swimsuit cover-up. It just is very blah to me. It doesn’t look like a new dress you bought for a special occasion.

I think you should wear what YOU want to wear, and if that involves a black dress, then go for it!

Personally, I wouldn’t weara black wedding dress. The one you’ve posted in a beautiful dress that o’d take along on the honeymoon. Wear what you want though!

Go for it, it may be plain BUT you can add to it and deck it out how your see fit! Add a necklace, bracelet and a sash. Or a bolero! Are you planning on a veil? You could do a birdcage or if not, add flowers in your hair. If you really like it, go for it. Its your day, rock it girl!
